Shhhh...Just between me and you, k? The legs are brown resin with a screw hole drilled in the bottom. Son bought me the correct double-ended screws and it was like magic. Screw one end of double-ended into leg, the other end into bottom of vanity. Another shhhh, K? Searched for almost a year and couldn't find a 24" vanity that didn't take up too much depth space and with a usable drawer. Vanity is a re-purposed microwave cart. Didn't want to lose the utility drawer at the top (with sink hanging inside vanity) so had son reconfigure drawer and glides and put it at the bottom. (gotta have a place for that almighty make-up, doncha know *grin*) Hey, I kept telling everyone I was on a strict budget, now maybe they'll believe me. lol And you are so right, in the grand scheme of things, the quappy work the previous owners did to create a master bath, leaving us with the mess, is a small obsticle when I start to think of the bigger things that could go wrong in other areas of our life. Your post has given me the umph to keep "plugging along"---Thank youuuuu! In fact, I'm printing your post and I'm going to stick it where my new medicine cabinet 'should be' but isn't, yet. lol It will serve as my new "Keep Pluggin' Along" mantra each day from here on out. Nigelsgarden, The only reason the old finish has to come off is because it's not original. The tub has already been re-done once. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out, Live Wire Oak, I take your point, believe me. But while replacing the tub would be sensible, it would be neither cheap, nor easy. It won't fit through the bathroom doorway, and will have to be broken up with a sledge hammer, and the shards and pieces carried downstairs, over newly refinished hardwood floors, out to a rented dumpster on the street. Then the surround would have to be re-tiled (and even the ceiling's tiled). Then the tile floor would have to go because the tub's an odd shape, and the flooring tile goes under a working radiator (also cast iron) and continues part way up the wall. Trust me, adding up the 'cheap fixes' will amount to a fraction of the cost of gutting everything. This is Pandora's bathroom...

@Phoebe, I am not sure that solid copper drains for bathroom sinks exist. I have a copper kitchen sink and had a hard time locating a solid copper drain for the sink. I got mine from Havens Metal but I believe Rachiele also carries them. I couldn't locate any other source for solid copper kitchen sink drains and I doubt whether they exist for bathroom sinks. However, if they exist, Havens or Rachiele would be the companies that would know so you could contact them directly to check. I posted on another thread that I wasn't really concerned about having a solid copper drain for my bathroom sink because it just doesn't get the same kind of hard use that a kitchen sink does. Bathroom sinks aren't "scrubbed" as intensively as kitchen sinks are - at least mine aren't because they don't generally have the same kind of debris adhering to them. FWIW, you aren't supposed to scrub copper sinks anyway - especially if you have any kind of factory finish. So it is unlikely that your bathroom sink drain would be problematic. Not to sound cavalier, but worse case scenario is that you replace the drain cover in the future if for some reason it doesn't wear well. My bathroom sink and drain are from Premiere - they also supplied my copper kitchen hood, some tiles and my medallion. They are an excellent well priced source for copper stuff.

For example, the hansgrohe Talis E is available with and without a pop-up drain assembly. "We want to replace only the drain." Yes, get a push-button drain assembly (example).
