Material for bath/shower surround

We are planning a remodel of a narrow bath, with tub/shower combo at the end. The room is visible from the entry way and all the way down the hallway. Currently the shower/tub/surround is of whatever inexpensive material they were using in the late 60's. What can we use that would look beautiful and/or dramatic when viewed from the hallway? We have had bad experiences trying to keep tile grout clean in the past, but maybe there have been improvements? What about engineered quartz? Can you use granite? What are some good options, and what would we regret?

I have just finished my Carrera marble project, I used 6x12" and 12x12" on the floor. I also used 1x2" Carrera Basketweave as a mosaic accent on the floor and on the shower wall. We bought 200SF and shipping for under $1,800. The tile was from Venato Carrera and the Basketweave from the same company so it matched Venato Carrera only $11.95 for the Basketweave and $7.00SF for the 6x12". Shower replacing a bath - height of new base or surround?

I recently did this in my sister's bath, and I just went with the four inch high base of the shower pan, it was easier, she's short, and it turned out just right. I tiled the whole shower, then used the glass wall, but no door (just a space) as the shower is long enough it won't spray out into the room. She has no dogs, or children, to bathe, so it was perfect for her.

I know this is an old thread. I'm comtemplating if I want a tub at all but if I get an air or a jetted tub, if the sides have stone around, how do you reach the motor if you need a repair? Just curious if anyone has dealt with that situation. For my current outdated tub, I can reach the motor through the the cabinet; I have a cut out there. I could do the same thing. But adding a slab of quartz to a tub make for a very expensive tub. Dominique, what did you decide and are you happy with your decision?

Find a Corian dealer/installer and get designer white and if it is an "elevation $$$ issue" then it is. Does "alcove shower" mean that or it's a tub/shower combo?? A shower tucked between two walls could be virtually any size......an alcove tub shower would suggest 30/60/30 walls to whatever height.
