Blooms from the last couple of days
Comments (16)The round dark-leafed companion plant is Ligularia 'Britt Marie Crawford'. Yes that is sun coleus in that planter, I also have a bit of an obsession with coleus and buy every color I see in spring. The secrets to growing big hostas is water, water, water. They are water loving plants. Most of mine also get morning sun and afternoon shade. I have tried hakonechloa grass, and I don't think it likes our Wisconsin winters. You are right, it makes such a great companion plant to hostas. Maybe it's worth another try. Jen...See MoreSome photos from the last couple days
Comments (18)fgoldberg - I got them all from different places, but Marietta Gardens has Baby Blues, Driving Me Wild, Mystical Rainbow, Seal of Approval (it seems expensive there) and Siloam David Kirchhoff. Homestead Farms has Baby Blues, Driving Me Wild, Pony and Sings the Blues. I've ordered from both and been happy with my orders. Also, if I remember correctly you live in Montgomery County - our daylily club is having a sale at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on August 11 at 9 am (everything's $5 per double fan) and I'm going to try to divide Siloam David Kirchhoff and Sings the Blues for that sale. (Let me know if you want more info.) Juliet...See MoreBlooms over the last few days
Comments (12)mantis- Temporary and Eternal blooms are at the registered size of 5". Some may come in under but mostly likely not. I just love the clump of them and the bloom really holds up well under the heat. I'm only saying about INCENDIARY as to what happens here. I don't know if others are having small blooms and so much splotchiness. I've been checking for thrips but don't see anything and you'd notice bumps. With OPEN DOOR, I've had it 3 seasons so more than enough time to evaluate. FILLED TO OVERFLOWING- can't even get a bloom pic, is another one that will be going. Pitiful plant. Again, not a reflection of the hybridizer, just how plants perform in my garden. Full sun all day, no soaker hoses or garden hose sprays - rain water only.
