Des anyone wear a "gaiter" or buff for a mask?

Just curious. There are summer weight ones and oodles of pretty colors and designs.

No but I just yesterday I received new masks from China. Made thicker than what my job gave us to wear. They also have a metal nose piece. I like that the ear straps aren't flimsy elastic that shred in the washer.

I have several for kayaking activities. I wear them to avoid UV exposure and wind burn. That's the only time I wear one. Mine are made in USA by Gaiter.

NJ, First what are the "health concerns" you have with it. If you read the MSDS sheets on DE and the alternatives they all pretty much read the same. You dont want to breath any of them in, and touching them can cause some people skin irritation. Best thing is to use a proper mask, and eye protection. It is not like you are putting in DE every day. I have no experiance with any of the alternatives in use, and there effectiveness. As to your last question, once the filter is cleaned you are starting over so you can change it to whatever without any problems.

Your entire wardrobe is going to change, not just coats, longjohns and gloves. In my 9+ yrs in St Paul, I found that I never wore shorts in the evening from Labor Day until midMay. Sleeveless - not so much except for a couple of weeks in August. I steered away from poly/rayon clothing and instead went with the highest cotton or wool content I could find. Natural fibers are better IMO for staying warm or cooling down during mosquito season. My wardrobe of slacks increased in number pretty quickly. I initially bought Sorel boots but found them to be too clunky and heavy to wear so I switched over to LL Bean duck shoes and I bought separate Dr Scholl's liners. Not at the top of the style-o-meter but when the snow is high and you are cold, who gives a hoot about style. Breathing bitterly cold air hurts the nose and lungs. I used scarves and wrapped them around my nose/mouth when outside, waiting for the bus etc. In MN, most winter days were really sunny. The lack of cloud cover allows all the warm air generated at ground level to dissipate. result, the beautiful sunny days are the colder days. I've lived in NY, MI, IL and MN. Of those 4 states, MN is the one where people are outdoors year round. If you let the weather dictate your lifestyle in MN and ND, you will be indoors 1/2 the year. Just layer up. If you move into a house with a yard/garden near sidewalks, do NOT use salt on the sidewalks. It kills vegetation. as Faron said, sand, sand, sand is your friend. My mother in law, who lives near Dallas, made one trip to visit when we lived in MN and she would not come back from Nov to Mar. You may find the same with potential visitors...

Some fabrics work better than others, study finds " This study, non peer reviewed and non published that's touted all over NBC is, sorry, looking at the issue in the wrong way. They studied how various materials can filter out the virus, which is tiny teeny, 03 micron. Sounds like this means that they're trying to prevent incoming viruses from infecting the person who wears the mask. However, one primary mode of transmission is through face-to-face interaction. Fact is that in normal interaction, speaking, coughing, sneezing, the virus is ensconced in droplets --- these droplets are way, way bigger than what Segal tested. Therefore, 1. The point is to look at how to prevent EMITTING these virus carrying droplets, that is, the wearer prevents transmitting his/her infection to others. And this is where face covers are extremely efficient: They block the spit droplets from leaving the mouth of an infected person. 2. So, any meaningful tests of protective mouth covers needs to test such droplets. 3. Yes, there is evidence that such droplets that are emitted by talking, sneezing, coughing can become aerosolized, ie become tiny, the size of what Segal tested. However, again, this can be prevented by emitting droplets in the first place. Super frustrating to see some anesthesiologist's unpublished, non-peer reviewed "study" be all over the Internet.

I would pass on the luncheon because most of the people at the service will probably be there. Why would anyone think one was not safe and the other was fine especially with people projecting their voices if they are seated apart. Second thing but something I have noticed having been a panty hose wearer most of my life. The pictures do not appear to be of the hose part but of the panty part. There are very few even big women's hose that are as wide as is shown. If they were cut lengthwise there is the small problem that the cut edges roll simply because that was the way they were formed.

Are they hotter? They seem like they would make your face warmer. I'll wear anything that protects people though.

DS has been wearing one as (1) he has a large head and (2) he has a full beard. Normal masks weren’t cutting it and he’s found these work. The brand he’s using can be wet and rung out. Is supposed to keep you cool for 2 hours.

I suspect Jackie would have covered her face with a silk scarf. Except that she lived in NYC, so she would have gone full out N95.

More tempting for winter, when extra warmth would be nice. But I clicked the link and many are quite fashionable.

Regardless of your politics, I am always drawn to the scarves/masks that Nancy Pelosi wears. Feminine and fashionable.

A gaiter wouldn't work with my hair style, but I've seen a lot of workmen around here wearing them.

My husband does. He can always have it on him and it is much more comfortable than masks that loop behind the ears.

I wear a traditional mask. I may buy a gaiter though.

They look comfortable, but they all seem to be made of stretchy knits, which is not as filtering as the recommended woven fabric.

i have one I wore when it was cooler. Now that it's in the 90s with high humidity levels, I can't handle it.

They have very nice ones at Academy sports. I don't have any. Just the masks I made. And some that were given out during Harvey.

I have several Buff bands and wore them at first when I didn’t have but 1-2 real masks to wear due to shortages. They are thin and I didn’t feel like I had much protection, even doubled up, so it was really an interim thing.
