Question for those who have used chalk paint - - -
Comments (22)I have used AS chalk paint on several pieces. At first it was to see what the excitement was all about, and I bought only sample jars when they were much less expensive than they are now. The sheen is VERY FLAT, and personally, I don't care for it without wax. I have not bought the AS waxes, but I have Butcher's Wax in clear, and Briwax in both light brown and dark brown. All of them protect and (to me) enhance the appearance of the chalk paint. This was a black and gold CL mirror that I did in blues and grays in AS chalk paint. I then used Briwax in dark brown to get into the carvings and add a bit of sheen to the mirror. BEFORE - AFTER - I experimented last year with a maple bureau that I bought from Craigslist. I put on patches of several colors (both chalk paint and regular latex in different brands). What I found was that the chalk paint stuck to the unsanded finish like glue. When I made my decision to go with a chalk paint color, I found that I could easily remove the latex paints by just running my fingernail over them. THAT is what I like about the chalk paints on furniture vs. the other types. This is the bureau that I mentioned above, still in progress. I used AS Paris Gray, and I am decoupaging fabric to the drawer fronts. In order to preserve the color match between paint and fabric here, I will use the butcher's wax in clear when I finish this one. I am replacing the knobs with chunky 'English style' knobs that I have painted in the AS Paris Gray. And before I started it, in the seller's garage -...See MoreQuestions Re Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Comments (12)I'm NOT crafty and NOT a furniture painter. I skip all kinds of steps, can barely find a piece of sandpaper, and my DH is even worse than me. I've now painted 4 different things with Annie Sloan and all have come out nice. My first project was a nightstand I bought on CL for $5 so didn't care if it didn't work out well. I cleaned it up, removed the drawer pull and started painting. I had a good Purdy brush and brushed on Duck Egg Blue. Then, I brushed some Old White on the feet. I let it dry, did a 2nd coat. Then, I brushed on a coat of MinWax clear furniture wax, let that dry maybe 15 minutes, then, buffed it out. Whole thing was done in maybe 2 hours. No technique. The shelves I did, I experimented with rubbing on some of the AS Dark Wax and rubbing it right off with a cloth moistened with the Minwax. The finish on the nightstand was not as smooth as the shelves where I took more time, they were slick and smooth and pretty. If you google chalk paint dresser or check out Shaunna West's Perfectly Imperfect Blog, there are directions and videos for painting with AS Chalk Paint. That's how I came to be energized to try it. (I've included a link you may enjoy that I found helpful...She's a bit chatty but she gets her point across) Miss Mustard Seed Blog also has a video on buying the wax that is pretty long but it was interesting to me too and helped me to decide to just plunk down the change to buy the dark wax and wax brush. For my painting I use my own brushes and also a cheapy pack of foam brushes that nailed the new media console I just did. You simply cannot imagine HOW BAD I am at furniture painting and how much I don't want to try anything that requires sanding or stripping or technique. This paint works for me. See a pic of my first try at this paint below. No sanding/no distressing/no dark wax. Comments (26)I purchased some after watching a You Tube on the founder. I got it at Ace.... I've used a lot of different chalk paints. It was my least favorite!! Don't waste your money. If you can't easily get Annie Sloan from a local seller, then I'd go with Renaissance which you can get on Amazon. It's one I have used a a handful of times and I have been happy with it. It's a good paint however it doesn't store well long term is the only downfall....See MoreChalk Paint Floors? Vinyl Floor Cloths in Kitchen
Comments (36)So after a lot more research, I’ve elected to paint the floor with Wise Owl One Hour Enamel. Plus primer and a sealant. It’s possible I may add a crackle glaze between the first and second coats of OHE, with a darker paint color over a lighter one, then seal, then use a brown glaze to softly define the grout lines, then seal again. I found lots of great info through White Owl suppliers & users. The OHE is super strong & durable. But this is still in the thinking stage. I’ll be doing some experiments, then decide. And if I want a rug/rugs in there, I’m going with Ruggable washable rugs. Thanks for all the advice & comments here. Love the internet!...See Moreteacats
