Anyone frustrated with the flat bottom of a farmhouse sink?
Comments (123)Found this thread because the Elkay Crosstown 31 inch sink we just had installed is pooling in the middle of the sink. Counters are so close to level that I'm not sure it would be reasonable for Elkay to complain. So some Elkay are fine and others are not. I'm going to try putting some olive oil and some Hope's Perfect Sink in to try to prevent the water's adhesion to the surface. But since I haven't found anyone suggesting/confirming ways to mitigate the problem I'm not hopeful....See MoreFarmhouse sink or undermount?
Comments (33)I'm reviving one of my old threads with some progress. I managed to pick up a 36" Kraus Stainless Steel sink on Woot for $200, so thtat is what we are going with. We found that we can get some good stock size windows, and use the same trim style I put up in the rest of the downstairs and it will look something like this Here is the trim I from the dining room I just finished: Here is the island that we put in the kitchen, doors were added later and can't find the good pic... Couple of the cool features... First is the step for my daughter. The drawer uses heavy duty self closing slides. It locks in place, and she can slide out the step piece. The other is the pull out pot racks: I actually had two threads on kitchen design. We had a few things we would run up against. The fridge cannot be moved due to several issues. Also the fact that my wife was dead set against several "good" layouts. We ended up taking several ideas and notes from those threads and came up with what we have now. The island ended up a LITTLE bigger than we wanted, but we have 40" inches between the dishwasher and island, as well as the fridge and island. I was hoping for 48" on the other sides, but I think I ended up with 42 and 44" Overall it's not bad. The only issues we've had is that if the fridge door is open all the way we can't walk past, the kids fit fine ;) We finally finished the one side of the kitchen, and hope to start the rest very soon......See MoreAdvice on Farmhouse Apron front double bowl sink.
Comments (31)70/30 and 60/40 are almost worse than 50/50. I dunno... After only having 50/50 my whole life (all 36 years of it, lol), I'm quite impressed by my experimental* 70/30. :-D The disposal is in the smaller section (kind of a pain), but the smaller section is closer to the stove, so it's not too bad. My colander perfectly spans the small section, so when I'm draining pasta, nothing touches the bottom of the sink. Which is really nice. I hand wash very few things, but I don't fill the sink up to do it (soapy sponge and slowly running water do the trick for me). All of that said, my dreams are filled with copper single basin sinks, so that I only have one disposal and one drain to clean. :-) [*experimental -- trying it out in the tract house we just had built, because I wanted to convince the husband that there's more to life than 50/50, and the builder wanted far too much for the single basin upgrade; the ultimate goal is to do single basin in the custom house.]...See MoreWorkstation sink vs main sink + prep sink? Comments (61)Stacy, I have the Akurum line which had the split top drawer standard. It can be done by mounting a divider to attach the rails to. That is how I do the individual trash pullouts under the sink (see the under sink photo I posted earlier) . I dont necessarily think split drawers are an advantage because you lose about 3 1/2” storage. I like the off-white Bodbyn. It’s not yellow in my kitchen which does have warm lighting @ 3000K and lots of wood which causes it to photograph with a yellowish cast. Look back at my daughter’s kitchen to see how the Bodbyn looks next to bright white subway tile. She has warm lighting too. Also, Ikea has a new door, Akstad that is bright white. Hope you find something you like....See Moreeam44
