Restoring wood on 100 year old 'cedar' chest

Summer No name

I inherited a 'cedar' chest that was my dads moms. It was made in 1929 and the wood appears to be cherry.

Except for some minor repairs and a little sanding that I need to do, this is in great condition. It has been sitting in a barn for many years until I took it home a few years ago.

I have sanded it and lightly washed the dirt off with Murphy's Oil.

I would like to leave it as "natural" as I can and wondering if I wiped it with some old English (so it isn't so dry and to add a little life) and followed it up with a clear poly would be the best way to treat it?

Thank you!
