Alternatively, you could move the refrigerator to the top wall so the island isn't a barrier b/w it and the island in the sink and then place the ovens where the refrigerator is now. It would give you room for both the ovens and counter -- maybe make it a small "Snack Center" -- out of the way of those working in the Kitchen but still easily accessible from the Kitchen. I like Mama Goose's rearrangement of the DW and range and the addition of the Dish Hutch, btw. I would keep the range in addition to the wall oven -- that way you have the option of two ovens, if needed. If budget is a factor, a rangetop would work as well. (You could store your pots & pans under it in drawers.) Why is there a pony wall behind the island cabinets? It seems like a waste of space (and an extra cost!) Just extend the counter out past the cabinets to create the seating overhang you want. The island would only have to be 41.5" deep instead of 46" (or deeper). No wall: 41.5"D 1.5" front overhang + 24" deep cabinets + 1" decorative door on the back of the cabinets + 15" overhang = 41.5" island depth Wall: 46"D 1.5" front overhang + 24" deep cabinets + 4.5" thick wall behind the cabinets + 15" overhang = 46" island depth . Note: Most walls are 4.5" deep when accounting for the drywall in addition to the studs. Some are as deep as 6". If you turn the studs 90 degrees, you can reduce the wall thickness by approx 2".

I attached the entire floor plan here. I have also made 3 more alternatives per everyone’s suggestions. Please keep giving me your valuable advices!. I will try to answer each question. To Diana Bier Interiors, LLC : I am not a designer, I wish I was though😉 We have worked with an architect firm for quite some time for the entire house renovation. We have tried everything to make the best out of the limited space for the kitchen and a powder room (a must for us) on the 2nd floor. Finally, we came up with this general idea. I would love to hear from our Houzz community. BTW, venting the range hood is not an issue per our contractor. My main concerns are those 6 questions listed in my first post. 2. To Lisa Dipiro : the reason for 36” walkway to the right side of the island: there is really not much traffic going on as all action is taking place on the other side of the island. So, we chose to give more space to the island. As for the fridge, we are using Sub-zero and its doors can be opened 90 degree, so no space needed for that part of the wall. Would you think this still works (walkway)? . 3. To clt3 : we cooked one turkey in the past 25 years. So, we decided to go with XXL Miele Combi-steam oven (24”W x 24”H) which can fit a 15 -20 lb bird if we really want to cook another turkey in the next 25 years. Heard that the combi-steam oven is amazing:) 4. To mama goose_gw zn6OH : wow, amazing mind. Shrinking the island, moving the peninsular to give a full counter around the corner wall! Should I try to put the wall ovens against that wall? I did a few more drawings. Your thoughts? Agree with no bar sink and a 30” range top. 5. To dan1888 and mama goose_gw zn6OH : great thinking! We have tried to turn the island by 90 degree again and again in the past. But the distance btw the range and island is at 5 to 6ft, even if the main counter row is deepened. We are afraid 5-6ft is too wide. I am only 5’2” and plays the main chief in the house currently. 6. To live_wire_oak : love your philosophy. Yes we wanted to have EVERYTHING in this small kitchen don't we? We will have to give up something here in this space, you are right. 7. To Buehl l: many details I left out at the first post. My bad. Please see the entire floor plan. The walls are pretty much fixed. The “+/-“s or “?”s are due to uncertainties as the entire house is to be rebuilt. We are a family of two, just myself and the hubby. But I am a mother who is longing for her grown up children to come back home on weekends or one day perhaps with their wives and my grandchildren too. Food prep/cooking, entertaining is all in our plans when we retire. I do not like people watching me to cook. The husband wants to learn baking when he retires but that may never happen as he loves his job too much. Thanks for all the links on kitchen design! Very helpful.

I have some similar elements that you are navigating so I can tell you what I decided on. I too was short on counter space (though you seem to have a lot). I agree w/ whoever said to talk to a designer. I actually also got the Miele XXL plumbed combo steam oven and 30" M-Touch Oven. I put the 30" oven under the 36" cooktop, figuring I would use the steam oven most of the time and that the bigger oven would be for more rare big gatherings. I put a full size drawer below the steam oven and had the steam oven end about 42" AFF (6" above counter height so I could do a coffee maker above that w/ a cabinet at 5' AFF). I was able to do more of the typical triangle w/ my layout, not sure how you would do that but don't love the cooktop being off on its own. I did cooktop above oven in center. 24" of countertops on either side w/ drawers below and then on one side the steam oven, followed by a 24" full size wine fridge and on the opp side a 30" fridge followed by 18" freezer. This allowed same 48" on either side for symetry, as well as functionality. Across from all of this is an island (like your idea) w/ the sink facing the oven, etc. The counter space is less than ideal but w/ a big island right there there is plenty of work space btw the two. Fridge: That's a tough call. One big reason to go with a 36" counterdepth fridge is standard sizing. We're currently living with a very old 32" side-by-side that we can't replace easily, because there aren't many options that narrow. The remodel will get a 36" because my husband is, rightly, obsessed with getting everything as standardized as possible. (We have a similar situation with a vintage oddly-sized wall oven). BUT, I wouldn't want the fridge or island straddling a flooring change. Can you wait on the remodel until you are able to extend the hardwood into the kitchen? If you taking down the walls, a unified floor will look much better. If you need to make changes now and can't change the floors, then I would vote for keeping the narrow fridge, and putting cheap countertop on the island. When you have money for new floors, get a standard fridge and new fridge surround, a narrow extra cabinet for the island that can hold sheet trays or cutting boards, and then the final island countertop. Hood: barring any odd structural constraints, you can absolutely go through the wall into the garage, then up through the garage roof. Know this because our new hood is going to do this, and contractor and the permitting office have ok'd it.
