Miss-match Help

Hey guys! I recently purchased a home that is mismatched woods. The previous home owners replaced the original floors with a light oak. The trim is all a cherry stained medium dark. The previous owners did a horrible paint job and they will need excess paint removed from them if i keep them.

I’m a lover for original wood but the floors makes it look as if it doesn’t belong. I’m aware that painting original trim can devalue the home, BUT the kitchen has been painted (also a fire) and the upstairs has been modernized. So my concern is should I paint the trim or leave it?

I would like to go with a Modern clean feel but with character. Not farmhouse but more relaxed modern.

ps: I’ve always lived in older homes. My current house is decorated mid-century modern and my fiancé hates it. So we want to come up with an even feel between both mid-century and modern.
