zippy, I believe we did a trade that included Ghost seeds. I grew seeds from the same packet and got ghost peppers, not serranos. I believe I sent you both ghost and anaheim seeds. I hope those are not the ones you're talking about. But if they are...I want to make it right with you. I didnt harvest the seeds I sent to you so I cant vouch for them 100% but they DID produce ghost peppers for me. I want all trades to end on a good note so please share your thoughts. Are you thinking of the dried chilis? I've grown seed from several of them. De Arbol as I remember took a very long time to germinate. I thougt it was dead seed but didn't get the trays dumped out and then....there they were. Waited several weeks and then several sprouted within a few days of each other. Some other varieties germinated in a week, others took long, and some never grew. They were probably dried at hotter temps, I'm guessing. I'd try soaking the seed from dried peppers 12 hours in lukewarm water before planting. Maybe that would give them a quicker start than mine which were not soaked. I'd sow them soon. You should be able to find enough inside light to keep them alive til plant out time. And the plants can use the extra growing time....seems to take forever for some chilis to ripen. Good luck. It's fun to experiment with non-seed packet seeds. Just be sure you have a backup plan if yours do not grow. You wouldn't want to go all summer without any pepper plants!

First question I have is did you get your seeds from a reputable supplier? Heat is key for the seeds, NO SUN. Light only after they have sprouted. I have 10 of these plants growing for about 8 weeks now, will start hardening them off next weekend. I dont do that baggie thing but that is just a personal preference, some folks on here swear by it. I just drop the seeds in a good medium, put heat under them at 85 degrees and walk away for at least 2 days before I give minimal water. Bill

Thank you romy6 for answering, my location is San Francisco Mid-Peninsula, we don't always get high temps in the summer, occasional 90s and rarely 100 degrees, during the day and in the 50+ at night. I keep their container in the full sun of my backyard. They are in a moisture retention type of soil, I haven't fertilized yet, but I'll probably use the Miracle Grow I use for my tomatoes and strawberries! Annamaria
