Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

80s home exterior needs updating

Hi all- I posted three years back and took all suggestions. Still struggling with the giraffe stone- any ideas on how to update that? We painted the stucco darker brown- added a new door color. Would like more suggestions- maybe even a brighter door color? Whe would anyone use so many materials - stone, brick, and stucco?

What are you going for? How would you like this to look?

It fits into the landscape well. I don't mind the stone. I might do a brighter front door, sure. But what don't you like about the curb appeal?

Romabio for your stone.

The Classico is a lime wash. Romabio also has masonry paint that will give you a thicker coverage.

I suggest you search out Romabio before and after (on stone facades) so you can see the transformations

That pink stone around your garage is horrible w/the coloring of the house. I'd paint all of that in a heartbeat.

I also found another project I did, where they used wood for the decking, and top railing cap with feeney cable rail as well. White timber tech post sleeves. I made a pergola to go over the deck and they bought one of these really cool colored sunsail awning to go onto. Like someone else mentioned the side stairs could be better with divided landings, and wider. As far as the siding I know its very expensive but hardy plank would last the longest with minimal maintenance. I also think that if something was done with bottom of deck, either columns, enclosed porch with deck underneath would change the whole appearance of the house, along with different rails.

I agree that painting your stone is not going to give you an updated look. I would either embrace it or remove it entirely. Your greatest impact is going to be in painting the stucco and trim, front door and garage door. All of those except front the front door should be the same color. I would recommend picking a warm gray or taupe color out of the stone. This will both downplay your stone and bring the house into a more contemporary pallet. For your front door I would consider a dark rich color. As K Lawrence said, go big with the light over the front door; perhaps something with simple lines on a bracket. As far as painting the brick, I like your brick, and would try fixing the color of the stucco and trim first and see what you think. But this is also a house that wouldn't look bad with the stucco, trim, and brick all painted the same color.

I have a "garage forward" house, and perhaps what you don't like is the strong statement the stone makes but only halfway. So it's a pretty big contrast between the stone and the other side of the garage which makes a strong out of balance statement. I'd paint the house a color closer to the stone so there's much less contrast. Painted stone is like putting tinfoil on a turd, IMHO. You could also cover the stone with siding that matches the pillar or some other siding on the house. The problem with your house now is that the garage is looking way too prominent considering how pedestrian that part is, with the entrance receding into the background. That can be fixed with paint and landscaping. But if you have your heart set on a white house . . . I dunno, maybe cover the stone with stucco. I just think painted white stone is going to look cheap. Colorful front door will be a nice update too.

The picture to the right is the one you posted last year. But it looks like the picture you posted today is an even older one because all the birches are still there, and the trees closer to the front door look larger in the right side picture.

I’m not sure why I can’t respond to someone’s specific comment- looking to update I’m general- a new door color- we won’t lose the dark brown and stucco- we just painted that. The rock to me is mainly outdated.

is the lime wash would look good. just search 'romabio before and after on Pinterest or google. lots of pictures to view.

as for the door color, I can barely see it in your picture.

blues or greens might be another option

they have all diff color lime wash
