Living room arrangement

Hi !! I have a new construction built and I’m struggling with the arrangement of my living room. The size is about 17.4 * 16

Can anybody suggest what’s the best arrangement ?? We use the tv a lot more than we use the fireplace. The right side of the living room is an open kitchen. I am not sure if I can place a couch with the open kitchen.

Please give us the floor plan of the kitchen, so we can see how to manage this space. How many people do you usually have sitting in this room?

Devin...what she means is it is a Pain in the A** Since you're contending with a corner. I personally like it (obviously, I did it) and I prefaced my comment with I know everyone else will chime in with how horrible it is...My family room is 20x20 and open to the kitchen. For us and the way we use the room, the corner was the best arrangement. We were not willing to sacrifice TV viewing and we know our family...if we got an articulating mount, the TV would ALWAYS be pulled down and that would drive me crazy. I recommend you lay out a room currently with furniture/boxes representing furniture and see how that lives. You can design what you think looks best, but you really need to see how it lives for your family. IMO

Morgan, that looks so nice. How do you feel about it? I'm sure it's the angle, but I might bring the chair on the left a little further into the room. Same angle, but put the back chair leg even with the front of the hearth tile and have the other chair equally into the room. Can the sectional move toward the fireplace a little more, or will the art on the wall then be of center. Just trying to cozy up the conversation area. Any thoughts to the suggestion of moving the TV to the wall the sectional used to be on?

Everything is pushed against the walls. Going forwad, here are two ways to go: --Float a v very comfortable low propotioned sectional. As someone said upthread, long side to face TV, shorter L to face fireplace.Place a large round coffee table or nesting coffee table that can be pulled as needed in the L of the secitonal. Add an armchair to the right of the fireplace. Sofa should be a camel color leather. Get a patterned rug in navy and gold/camel to take advantage of the floors. ----Float sofa and two chairs and arrange in conversational group. You could get one end of the sofa in a short chaise for TV watching across the way. Chairs could also face fireplace. --Add a large, great piece of art in the palette you like over the sofa wall and another on the fireplace so you have something interesting to look at on both sides.

Draw up a “to-scale” room on graph paper, showing the relative size and placement of the fireplace, windows, doors, openings, and note adjacent spaces. Then cut out measured pieces representing your furniture pieces, including tables, console, a rug if you have one, and all seating pieces.
If you are buying new furniture, take your floorplan and a measuring tape with you so you can “imagine” each piece in the space.

IMO this space is not large enough for 2 seating areas. As for the rest why not the TV on the same wall as the FP above what looks like low cabinets type storage on either side of the FP. I really have no clue as to why you would even want to have 2 chairs not even in the space at all. I have a 25 15' LR with 2 seating areas but they connect with a bench in between. Yes an idea of the kitchen and also number of people usually would be helpful. I find the easiest way to figure this out is to draw a to scale floor plan and furniture cut out of paper also to the same scale and play with the pieces. If you doing shelves on either side of the FP make sure you have stuff that needs to be displayed too.

Thank you all for your suggestions. We are 2 people right now and guests coming over from time to time. This is my kitchen plan included. I’m not a fan of the tv above the fire place as I really like my tv at my eye level so we opted for cable connection on the opposite wall.

I would move the tv connection to the wall across from the kitchen. Place the sofa facing it and then two sets of matching chairs one set by fireplace and one set across from them.

or leave the tv where it is and have two sofas facing each other and two comfy swivel chairs by the fireplace facing the tv area. Like this one except chairs and tv switched.

This arrangement with swivel chairs and all scaled to your room size is a good fit even with TV on the side wall.
