What’s causing deformity on new growth eggplant leaves?

Hello,

Hope someone can help with this. I have two “little finger” eggplant growing in a self watering container. The larger, older leaves are curling inward and new growth is shriveled and deformed. The potting soil is brand new and moist so I know it’s wicking properly. I don’t see any holes that indicate beetles. I did see some aphids last week. I removed aphids with a strong stream of water and then sprayed a diamataceous earth slurry. I continued to look for aphids every day since then and haven’t noticed any. I tried the white paper trick to check for spider mites. I did knock a couple red spider mites off of my tomatoes and marigolds near by but non off the eggplant.

Any ideas on what is causing this? Could it be drift from nearby herbicide? Could it be spider mite or aphid damage but I’m just not seeing them?

Thank you for your replies.
