The aftermath of the tropical storm

Although I live six hours inland from the Gulf of Mexico, hurricanes and strong tropical storms still can have an impact. (I lost three trees in my yard during Katrina.) Christobal brought rain and strong winds. Over two days, rain equaled 4 1/2 inches. Between downpours this morning I assessed garden damage. Pots across the yard, lawn furniture tossed around but no physical damage. Daylilies took a beating-lots of scapes broken or lying on the ground, lilies hanging from broken stems and shredded petals in the ground, some beds sitting in ponds! But no worries-so much better off than those with flood damage or without power.

Here are a few photos of survivors.

Joan Derifield-obviously not as red as this shows but otherwise untouched by wind and rain

South Seas-also unblemished

Jesse John-strange that a purple would look so good

Laughing Skies on the ground

My Big Brother Bobby (which I personally have!) with first bloom-damaged but huge

EITV- relatively unscathed

Mountain Orchid giving first flower in the storm!
