I bought several Vanda family orchids from Bill Asia's ' Royal Orchid Club'. There has been some controversy as some people have very negative feelings about them. This seems to be related to plants other than vandaceous ones. Also they ship about twice a month so if you order at the wrong time you'll wait 2 weeks before you see your plants. The plants are shipped bare-root, requiring immediate attention something else some people don't like. I have gotten a number of blooming sized vanda types from them and would recommend them for that only. Right now they have over 80 different vandaceous offerings. I would buy from them again. Nick

google. where in the house does it live? It must be living in dry air. And that is why it is unhappy. You need to create an environment it likes or give it to someone that has the right environment. I live in South Florida and I don't grow orchids from the Himalayas and they can't grow orchids from the Everglades. With an effort you can make an artificial environment to survive or thrive depending on how well you do. I can't tell you how to build one. I never needed to. Because I don't have mountain top orchid either, living in low flat lands of Florida. I have been given orchids in the past that I had no chance in creating a culture that would work. I gave them to a grower thad had success and proper culture.

Without a doubt! Thrips. I have them and its a constant fight. They destroy all my buds. They are sucking insects and if you grow Gardenia's or Hibiscus, they are Thrip magnets. I'm considering cutting them down but my Gardenia is huge and beautiful. A good control is Spinosid (not sure of the spelling) . You have to spray every two weeks while the buds are forming. It is organic and safe to use. Thrips will attack all orchid buds. They love Vandas and Phals but will go after anything they can get their miserable mouths on! Sorry about your plant. I actually had thrips on my vandals a few months ago. I found a way to get rid of them and now my vandals are flowering again. No, this is not thrips or any insect, because the bud is healthy looking. It just doesn’t grow. i am starting to feed it a fertilizer with a high phosphorus valium. Let’s see what happens.
