Comments (26)"Marcinde, you are arguing only against presumptions that you have added" Yard, you said "It's versatile and less expensive." I don't see how discussing where it is and isn't less expensive is arguing against a presumption *I* added. You said it. This is the internet. If someone doesn't triangulate to find the "truth" (such as it is), if they take one commenter's perspective as gospel, well... PT Barnum liked folks like that. So I don't really see a need to be "fair and balanced" in my opinions. Good lord I used a lot of quotation marks. There's my quotation quota. I feel like d-d brings up an entirely separate set of considerations but it's an intriguing point. Would a lick and stick stone clad feature be as valued in five decades (assuming the "stone" didn't basically spall and dissolve, like all the charcoal colored ones on my client's home's facade) as one made of natural stone? Or would it be viewed as less valuable and therefore more disposable? As designers we do need to be mindful of the total life cycle of whatever we specify....See MoreHELP! Dog sitting issue
Comments (5)It could also be marking, she is trying to establish that this is HER territory to the visiting dog. Some dogs do this even when it is a dog they know. Just making sure that everybody knows what is what, so to speak LOL. As for the anxious behaviour, make sure you don't reinforce it. Don't hover above the dogs fretting about how they are acting. Unless they are fighting badly, let them have their quibbles (which always look and sound horrid to us, but to dogs it is harmless and necessary) so they can establish their places in this temporary pack. Once they have figured something out, they will all be more relaxed. When I dog sit, sometimes it seems when they all finally settle and start acting like themselves, it is time for the visitor to go home LOL....See MoreHerringbone backsplash?? center on wall or cut off bottom to sit flat
Comments (56)Here is Fireclay Luna Brick, both are the same tile sitting at two different counter locations. It feels "earthy" , it is not a perfect match, but it gives enough contrast for the white cabinets and is light enough to give the space brightness that I want. My concern is the variation between each brick. Fireclays web site's pictures are sometimes misleading. I attached Fireclay's image of Luna installed as a backsplash and it shows a lot of variation from one tile to the next and then the other photo they have looks more consistant in color, confusing. Plus their color looks totally different from my sample. Do you think it will be too busy for my space? That is a good idea to order several more samples of Luna. I do plan to do this myself. My bid came in at over 1,000 for a professional. I probably won't do a herringbone if I use this size of brick....See MoreUneven foundation concrete wall and sill plates/framing issue
Comments (22)Everything IS bigger in TX! Find a builder or home that is Energy Star certified or insist on it for your current build if it's not too late. You're correct to be concerned with your build's lack of attention to detail behind the finished surfaces. Not only is the concrete inaccurate, the brushed surfaces indicate a lot of honeycombing cosmetic cover-up. No sill sealer or garage leg shear wall?...See MoreCraig Wilson
