cd fridges - kitchenaid kfcs22evms vs samsung rfg237aars
Comments (8)I second the advice to look at other sources than Sears. I see that you are in Canada, and I am in the states, so I don't know if what I have found out about the Sears pricing applies or not, but here is what I have found about the Samsung counter depth: The Samsung website says the list price is $2900. Sears says the list price is $3400! Lowes and Best Buy agree with the Samsung price. Lowe's has an exclusive with Samsung on a 2nd ice maker in the bottom freezer. It can be turned off separately from the top in-the-door ice maker. It takes up a bit of space in the freezer (and freezer space is certainly at a premium!), but we have decided that we want the Lowe's version. People that have bought this fridge generally really like it, but the small ice container is a complaint. The Lowe's salseman told us that they should have 10% off for Presidents Day (I suppose not in Canada!) and you can get another 10% off with a coupon at the Lowe's moving website (google it, and you don't HAVE to be moving). We are also getting a Kitchenaid dishwasher (note that Sears has higher list price on these as well, by $50 to $90) and I think the stainless on the Kitchenaid is a bit brighter than the Samsung, but I'm not going to let that change my decision. I want to get the best appliance in each category (at my budget), and the Samsung fridge gets great reviews. I plan to hang a hand towel on the dishwasher bar to hopefully hid the differences some, and my dishwasher is not that close to my fridge. I plan to get the new Electrolux slide-in induction range and the GE Advantium over-the-range micro/speed cook, so I am all over the place with appliance brands. Oh well....See MoreDo you like your internal (fridge) water dispenser?
Comments (10)Hmmm...I see your point. I guess it depends on how long the hinges are. On my current fridge the hinges are 6.75" long but vary in height from 0.5" to 1". My upper cab cut-out is 70" high. The fridge's cabinet space is 24" deep. It might work. Perhaps a bigger issue is that this unit doesn't seem to get very good reviews, at least on the ajmadison site. I will search this forum to see if there is better experience. I was leaning toward a Jenn Air because folks on this forum seem to give good reviews to their Jenn Air CD FD fridges. Actually, there is also an LG model that would work for me, but I'm a bit scared off of LG due to people's experiences here....See MoreCounter-depth fridge w/ dual evaporators & *no* external water
Comments (4)What Pal said. I just finished this same search and decided that I didn't like the fit and finish on the Kitchenaid and the Liebherr was more $$ than I was willing to spend. Another option is the Summit CP 171. It has two evaporators, no water, no ice. Its very small, apartment sized, but you could get two and place them SXS. I started out looking for a single door CD fridge w/no externals in white. I didn't care if it had an ice maker or not. I ended up with a SS CD fridge, FD with external ice and water. Go figure! Its an Electrolux EW23BC85K. It was installed yesterday....See MoreFridge recommendation - preferably no external ice maker/water faucet
Comments (15)"My appliance repairman told me he only buys Kenmore because while the appliances are manufactured by other companies, they are manufactured for Sears without known issues. He said that most appliance manufacturers just keep making appliances with known defects but Sears demands they redesign before they sell it as Kenmore." I'm sorry, but I have to call nonsense on that. Sears does make changes in specification from the manufacturer-badged version of an appliance. But sometimes it's just features, like glass shelves at a lower price point on a refrigerator, or a slightly higher spin speed on a washing machine. And sometimes it's mechanical. While it's not completely analogous to kitchen appliances, we bought a Kenmore water softener that was made by Ecowater. It was DOA as of the first regeneration so we had Sears take it back. Because Sears refused to stand behind their warranty, we bought an actual Ecowater to replace it. Turns out the differences between the Kenmore and Ecowater versions were plastic gears (brass on the Ecowater) and thinner cabinet walls on the Kenmore. Sears these days can barely keep itself in business. If they really could identify which appliance features were going to go bad in the space of a few years, they probably ought to just get out of retail and become QA advisors to Whirlpool, Electrolux, Haier, LG, and Samsung....See Moredaschouten
