Comments (15)To: roy4me That is interesting "old" technology. That is a Pelton water wheel driving a sandstone grinding wheel. That setup is very dangerous. I wonder if the owner knows how dangerous it is. That is a sandstone wheel that is meant for slow speed only. Typically, those were spun by a foot treadle and speed was of no concern. However, that wheel has a very low speed rating. That pelton turbine has the capability of spinning the wheel above its bursting speed. When I was a boy, an acquaintance of mine was severely injured when he spun up a low speed sandstone wheel with a Model T engine. The wheel 'exploded' into 4 pieces striking him in the chest. He nearly died and did not live long afterward finally dying of complications from that injury. The speed of that setup is determined by the velocity of the water and pulley diameters. Maybe there isn't enough available energy to over-speed the wheel. However, the danger potential is there without a speed governor or meter....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - F 1/6/23

Comments (15)Just took this one today. Stuff ready to be put in recycling boxes. The sparkly wine was given to us at Christmas and because of the ’old booze’ thread I opened it last night so it wouldn’t be sitting around gathering dust. We had one small glass each, didn’t finish it and the rest went down the drain. Felt good!...See More- 6 years ago
