Google redirect to Yahoo

I'm on a pc running Windows 10 and just got this virus. I see very conflicting advice on the web on how to fix it. Can anyone here talk me through it? Thank you!

Without knowing what virus you have...how you got it...or what antivirus product you currently have, I would typically recommend installing the free version of Malwarebytes and see if that helps.

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Beyond that I'd suggest investigating some other antivirus products as it seems whatever you're using now failed to protect you.

Thanks. I have Avast, and ran it. It did not discover a virus. I'll try the malwarebytes. I am not aware of having done anything in terms of adding new programs, etc--this morning anytime I search on google it redirects to yahoo. I did clear cache and history, and checked to make sure google was selected as my search engine. None of that has worked so far.

I use Mozilla and get the redirect. If an advertiser on our company site has a scam ad I know how to pull it and I have limited technical knowledge. Its not like I use anti-virus programs to let me browse porn sites with spyware. I find others. Garden Web is getting reported. This is the email I sent to complain. "The Tree forum has apparently been infested by a virus where it attempts to auto-redirect users to a third party site. I found "as.suitesmart.com" as the destination my browser lists at the bottom. I'm reporting them and I suppose unintentionally the Tree Forum as well to Google's suspicious activity list and the FTC (http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm). If anything goes wrong with any of my banking passwords or anything gets installed I don't want I'll be forwarding their information to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) (http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx). Thanks, Marc M Toronado3800"

Google search problems anyone?
Q

Yes. When using Firefox (the one I just updated to), if I type http://www.google.com I now get directed to igoogle...always. In my version of Firefox (3.6.17) it is no longer possible to get the the plain old, cleaner-looking Google.com homepage anymore. Raven, the links you sent did not help to remedy this. Even the mentioned http://www.google.com/ncr sends me to the same page, iGoogle (personalizable page). I guess that's how it has to be with this version of Firefox. On the other hand, IE still let's me go to http://www.google.com. Although I'm not a Mac user, I read a thread on a Mac forum that mentions this iGoogle redirect as far back as 2005.

Hello, If you're getting redirected from Google then you're infected with Malware. Time for a check-up from the neck-up. Please visit the Malware removal forum in the link provided. Malwarebytes proves noneffective against most Google redirects. There are special tools to deal with it. It's also likely you may have been redirected to malicious web sites and have caught other Malware going undetected. Here is a link that might be useful: landzdown

try looking at this info Google.com redirects to another Google domain try using these google links see what happens you can reset one of them as your default for google if you need to. https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en https://www.google.com/ncr when on the google page to the far right is a small gear looking icon which is options click that, click on search settings, click on languages on the left, select your language and save changes, then on the left again click location fill in location info save. Maybe some thing in all of this will help.

I'm not sure it is a virus. As my thread title says, google is redirecting to yahoo. An internet search on the topic says this is a virus. If not a virus, what would it be? I ran Malwarebytes. It caught and quarantined 3 PUP items, but did not fix the issue. If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

I think I just fixed it. I deleted a couple of unknown apps, such as a game app, although none were loaded recently. Anyway it is no longer redirecting to yahoo. Yahoo!!! Thanks for your help. I wish I knew definitely what I just did to fix it, but it was just random trial and error.
