Google redirect to Yahoo

I'm on a pc running Windows 10 and just got this virus. I see very conflicting advice on the web on how to fix it. Can anyone here talk me through it? Thank you!

Without knowing what virus you have...how you got it...or what antivirus product you currently have, I would typically recommend installing the free version of Malwarebytes and see if that helps.

Beyond that I'd suggest investigating some other antivirus products as it seems whatever you're using now failed to protect you.

Thanks. I have Avast, and ran it. It did not discover a virus. I'll try the malwarebytes. I am not aware of having done anything in terms of adding new programs, etc--this morning anytime I search on google it redirects to yahoo. I did clear cache and history, and checked to make sure google was selected as my search engine. None of that has worked so far.

you need to get assistance for this one at a support forum this is one that is very very hard to get fully rid of with out help running some special scans. Go to this forum and register then post your thread in the area I am linking you to. Analysis and Malware Removal they will help you get it fully removed. If you need help registering there just let me know I am over there also.

Vickey, I know this sounds really dumb for someone who has been hanging around the KT for over 10 years, BUT....... How do you get to safemode when the computer is running? I don't even remember how to do it when starting up the computer. My XP is not like 98 and I don't think I have used safemode since the switch.

I just looked in Google. It opens a page with hundreds of photos. In the black strip in the middle there are a few, the highlighted one is much larger. Above the image, click the View Image Button. This will open the Picture in a new Browser Window. What I've found is that some contain a Magnifying Glass and some don't. The pictures with the magnifying glass, if you click on them it will enlarge them. The ones with the magnifying glass won't get any bigger. An Option: You can hold down the Ctrl Button on your Keyboard and then use the Scroll on your Mouse (you should be able to enlarge the whole webpage, which in turn will enlarge the picture).

I'm not sure it is a virus. As my thread title says, google is redirecting to yahoo. An internet search on the topic says this is a virus. If not a virus, what would it be? I ran Malwarebytes. It caught and quarantined 3 PUP items, but did not fix the issue. If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

I would reboot into SAFE MODE and run Malwarebytes again

I think I just fixed it. I deleted a couple of unknown apps, such as a game app, although none were loaded recently. Anyway it is no longer redirecting to yahoo. Yahoo!!! Thanks for your help. I wish I knew definitely what I just did to fix it, but it was just random trial and error.
