The Hosta Library says that 'H. Krossa Regal' can reach 36" tall by 70". I have both K.R and R.S. side by side and they are pretty close to that size.I have had them in that spot for at least 4 years and they were at least a year old when planted. I have some small Hostas in front of them that I planted last year I put them about 2 feet in front so they would understory . With those growing and the Krossa growing as well I think they will join up this year. I love to let the big ones cascade over them. I think it makes a full and natural look. With K.R. you can't go wrong because IMHO they blend well with any other Hosta. Denny

With hostas, aren't sports considered different if they spring from different plants even though they look alike? For instance, it can only be called RP if it is divided from or a tc of a RP? Right now, it's the most white one that I'm most interested in. I know hostas with a lot of white have a hard time growing and often the white melting out if it gets too much sun. In a couple weeks when I have more time, I'm going to split off all the sports and let them grow seperate and start taking pics throughout the summer of each one. They do tend to behave differently, some will be all green by mid summer, others will go most green with a white spripe, and others stay streaked the entire growing season, or at least that's what it's done in the past. And who knows, maybe the all green KR will send out more sports once I divide it, one can always hope.

Mary, I'm not very talented in groupings either. I've moved a lot around. Sometimes, they look great for me when their in their pots and then when they're planted in the ground, I don't like them. However, I do try to build my gardens using the following techniques: Anchor the area with a big one to give the eye a focal point, then build a border that will take the eye around the garden. Then, I try to brdige the two by layering the area with color and texture. It's the same technique that I use when decorating my home. My experience with Orange Marmalade and Great Arrival is that they don't take the sun well, so I'd let some of your larger hostas give them some shade.

I'm thinking that hosta in lower right corner of picture might be Goodness Gracious? It could be one of those, based on what mine looks like in its 3d growing season. I hope I live to see my hosta get that big. Somehow, if they want to show out like that, I'm gonna find a way to let them. It might take some cattle watering tanks, digging a nice well to afford the water, but by golly I'm going for it! Scary, but why not let Sagae and Victory and Yellow Emperor do their utmost to see what size hosta this area can grow. I haven't really fertilized my hosta. When I found out Osmocote was not so useful here on hosta, I pretty much gave up all but some liquid fert in a hose dispenser-- once I did that. I used caution about making them grow quicker than I was ready to deal with. Guess now I'll see if DH (whose veggie bed is winding down for the summer) is interested in a 2nd job, spray fertilizing the hosta. I'll have to be careful though or he might update his "density calculation." hehehehe
