Living room wall color - advice pls! (pic)
Comments (20)UGH-- I am not getting e-mail notices so missed a lot here! I'm sorry I missed so much great advice! I actually painted a warm camel color, just a little lighter than the sofa, and I like it. But I lost the name of the sample and just had it mixed from the sample paint, so I can't even tell you what the name is I ended up with.:-P I like it-- but now I want to try all the other great ideas here. Ahhh-well---the next time the decorating bug hits. :-) I'm just now looking for pillows-- so great to have your input Dee! I'm def checking those paisley PB ones out! And I LOVE your peanut butter description for your sofa. :-) Much more interesting than "camel" I have considered painting the chair rail but it is so irreversable that I haven't. I have that same cherry wood on my windows and doors throughout the house too, and like the continuity that brings. Thanks, fillagirl, for the lovely response. I really like the idea of painting the door on the fireplace wall the same color as the wall-- never thought of that and I just might. Really appreciated the specific color recommendations from several of you also.... always a big help in weeding through the many choices. And ideefixe... I've considered an area rug but wasn't sure how it would work over my "extra plush" wall to wall. Does anyone else have that super plush carpet with an area rug over it? jan in wisconsin, I just ordered two lamps! Now I'm looking for a large piece of artwork with lots of "my" greens in it for the wall behind the sofa. When I get those things, I'll try to figure out how to post here and show you. Wish I could have you all over for tea to see it in person! Thanks, everyone! This is fun!...See MorePls help design my living room
Comments (15)Here is Rev. 1 of your room. With the measurements you posted, the inset of the front door is much greater than your picture, so just keep that in mind. Do you have a photo of that entry door and the space from the stairs to the front door? Anyway, what you have to keep in mind is the actual size of the space for furniture in this room is about 13' x 12', so this becomes fairly limiting for furniture like you are describing. But, here is a possible layout.I put a 80'x40' sofa and would recommend keeping the arms low and perhaps a camel back would be nice because it would enhance the view when coming in the front door (assuming that is your front door). I put a small sofa type table behind the sofa to help create a small entry look for the space. With the door swing, you can't put a table on the far wall successfully. I put two high back chairs each side of the fireplace, but you have to keep those pretty narrow if you can. No big, overstuffed look, but sleek lines, some nailheads would probably help tie your style choices together. I put a console table in front of the windows so you could have some decorative pieces there and enough away from the wall so you could do some drapery panels. I put an oval coffee table, mainly so you can move around these pieces easily. I didn't put anything on the half wall so you can move in and out of the space unencumbered. I would probably repaint this room. I am not crazy about the dark wood tone over the fireplace, but that depends on the style and furnishings. A great piece of sculpture or art over the fireplace would be spectacular upon entering the home. I like the sofa across the room, because it brings some balance and allows for a "small" entry look as well. Comments (57832)Hi Seajay! I am glad to see you are making progress! It is very rainy here today on the Gulf coast! I have a contractor remodeling our master bath right now! The soak tub has been converted to a walk-in shower. And the old shower is being framed as a closet! They have been here since Tuesday, and they are almost done today! Yay! The painter we are hiring just called and wants to start next Tuesday! OMG, my head is spinning!😂🤣😂...See MorePls help with large, carpeted, dated, combined living/dining room.
Comments (16)I agree with measuring well, and I also agree that a 3-seater sofa and two chairs would be your best option. When you move, you would be able to most likely use both in a new place, or you would perhaps be able to either use the sofa or the chairs. And it gives you the most flexibility with options for furniture placement. Also, since you would like to use the space for tv watching and entertaining with family and friends, the sofa and 2 chairs would be the best fit, I think. I would keep it simple. I would not paint. I would also switch what you are planning - and I would instead use the space in front of fireplace for the dining area. If you’d like, you could bring in some rugs for more definition; and you could do a swag plug-in chandelier in dining area. I don’t know your style, so these are just some general ideas/views. But if you like any of the items i’ve used, I do have links for them :) Another chandelier: Below, a view with swag plug-in chandelier in dining area. They come in a variety of styles, this is just one: . Below, with rug to define living room:. And I would put the tv to the left of the fireplace - by that wall/window - on a floating/mobile tv stand/cart/console with wheels. That way, the tv can be seen from dining area, but can also be swung around to view from the living room area. It gives you the most flexibility for tv placement in this arrangement; and I see that there is an outlet right there, below that window. I would place the sofa on the long, window-free wall that faces the dining area and windows. And maybe a plant on right side of fireplace, and some art or a mirror over fireplace....See Morefreedomplace1
