Transplanting Japanese Maple

This tree is available locally, advertised as japanese maple but beyond that I don’t know what type. General advice I’m finding online is transplant in fall or early spring. Wondering how feasible it would be to hand dig, transport and replant successfully at this time of year, here on Long Island.

Any additional advice welcome, including sun requirements, estimated root ball size, fertilizing, etc. I’m generally clueless.
