BM regal matte vs eggshell
Comments (5)If your hallway, stairway is not extremely high and it can be painted with a little ease without the aid of scaffolds or ladder rigs, I would opt for the eggshell (if there are going to be little handprints up/down the wall all the time. Also if there is a large height just make sure the painters can meet and greet in the middle of their long runs to compensate for a nice smooth finish; doing long heighty walls or stairs can sometimes present a quest even for the best of painters. Definitely don't want to look down at an angle with lighting coming in a certain direction and see some small flaws. In baths, I would recommend using at least your eggshell finish. I don't like the pearl(satin) finish for my customers. From BM- the gloss is to much for the pearl. There isn't any paint going to resist wear/tear or excessive cleaning or hard pushy cleaning. All paints will eventually break down and also certain types of chemicals or magic erasers used . I prefer mattes in the more adult rooms, and eggshell in children's room. Low traffic rooms I prefer more of a matte. Kitchens/baths- eggshell and that is a good quality 100% acrylic paint ; from BM (where else). good luck....See MoreWhat finish(satin or eggshell) do most of you use on your walls?
Comments (25)LOL Ok depends on the house. In my alaska home I want reflective quality in the winter, so most straight painted walls and ceilings are in semi-gloss (shock and horror and yet it looks wonderful). Some walls are finished with varnish or shellac (even more shock and horror but they are the walls ya'll always compliment LOL) and others have a metallic finish. A few are finished with paste wax which when burnished is pretty glossy. Only my very deepest wall color in the basement is done in eggshell and that's because it gets too much light and was dang near glowing heh heh I'm also old fashioned so all trim is done in the highest gloss possible and I love that look. Now in the victorian, flat, matte whatever you call it for walls, though the ceilings will be in metallics most likely on the main floor. Trim paint is mostly being removed but the interim trim paint will be high gloss paint. I had a high gloss and then lacquered finish wall in one of my townhouses a few years ago. It was for art and it was stunning. The other walls in the room had to be semi so they didn't scream "different sheen" next to that long wall....See MoreBM Paint. What finish do you get and why?(matte vs. eggshell)
Comments (11)Hi Bloomin', I know that what I said seems inherently wrong but now I will tell the "rest of the story". I have never had Matte paint before except in the DR and it is navy blue and is Devoe paint. It is easily burnished so I was afraid to use more dark colors in matte but I wanted that rich smooth color. I read up on the different paints and scoured the GW for info. I have the Thyme Green you see and also a rich chocolate called Belgian Chocolate and then I have La Fonda Terra Cotta . All in BM . The difference is the ceramic in the paint. I don't think the BM flat has it so I would not suggest the same care. If I were you I would ask the BM dealer and also contact their web site and see what the difference is and the suggested care. I wiped the wall behind the cooktop down with an ammonia-based cleaner (Windex) when it was only days old as my DH had just stirfried and it was covered with grease. It ruined the paint job. My painter redid it and ....you guessed it I cleaned it AGAIN too soon. I then went to the paint store and ranted about the crap BM paint. Uh well...he showed me a wall he had scrubbed with a soft natural bristle brush and soap...it was perfect. He said cure it a month and then use the brush or a rough cloth and soap. My wall looks exactly like it did the day it was LAST painted. LOL. I love the color and wouldn't use any other paint now but it was my fault that I didn't find out the care first...although I think they should have ann info sheet for all types of paints so you know when you are buying what you are getting. Hope this helps you. Caroline...See MoreSpeaking of matte vs. eggshell...
Comments (11)I rarely spec egg or satin or semi. Unless pressed, it's always matte. I feel like sheen takes away something from color. In some brands, not all, it can make the color look cheap and plastic. I don't like that. I like the organic, natural sense that matte or flat brings to color. Not to mention flat and matte helps disguise a lot more than egg and up. In this day-n-age, you absolutely do not need sheen to a paint to make it washable or durable. If SW is the brand of choice, I spec Duration Home Matte for most colors - tough stuff. If it's an uber deep color I use Accent Colors in matte from Pittsburgh Paints. Using various sheens has a place in the overall scheme of things, just in general for "normal" walls and designs, I go with the modern, durable mattes. Be sure to pay attention to cure times. They aren't scrubbable, etc. overnight....See More- 3 years ago
