Identification needed
Hi everyone. I have a buddy that asked me if I could root a few roses for him. They were planted around 1900give it take a few decades( this is his families lore) and at first I thought they were Dr Huey until I got up close. fljerrs are dark red but the leaves are narrow and thick and shiny. The two shrubs were 3-3.5 foot high, upright and not very arching. most canes are .5 or so in diameter with small hooked thorns. These are growing in central Missouri 6A with no winter protection and basically no care with grass growing right up to them.

3 years agoOk, the man says it has a sweet rose scent with a hint of green wood, like you broke a twig and smelled it lol. This man definitely knows his rose! He also snapped more pictures. he says the color in these photos are accurate but some years these roses turn almost black they get so dark, like the dark part of a Mr. Lincoln rose. Regardless of the name, I assure you he will always treasure these. I Just wish I could give him a name.
