Comments (19)I would use the side of the room where you currently have your sofas as the "adult" space, and the corner where you have the play rug as the "kids" space. You need to separate the two. So move the desk to the adult area - either on wall to the right side of the opening to the family room, or slide the sofa under the window closer to the other one and put the desk on the wall between the sofa and entry. Move the two tall storage units to the staircase wall, and use them exclusively for toy and game storage. The kids kitchen can go on the wall to the left of the doorway opening. From your entry, you will see mostly the adult area, and the messier toys and all the shelves won't be immediately visible. One other option that could work depending on your floor plan is combining your living room and dining room in this space, and using the dining room exclusively as a playroom....See MoreHelp! 20yo Living Room needs overhaul w/ new furniture / rug
Comments (17)Thanks Beverly. My calculus teacher used to say that "you can't tell the riders from the horses without pictures" - in this case scaled drawings. I don't have the room layout drawn to scale, so here's a couple of pictures that may help. Looking into room from behind columns. Room is approximately 21' x 17' (window wall to columns) Tape indicates about where a 12 x 15 rug would land - about 2-1/2' from wall Opposite diagonal corner with tape showing where the 12x15 would end up. It's about 28" from column. While this room is slightly larger (and elegant!), and doesn't need the pathway for the Master BR, the relative positions of the furniture is my goal. Note the sofa table and chair behind the sofa, but not on the rug - I would like to have a table and chair and don't care if they're on the rug or not. My preference is to have all the furniture on the rug. Is that enough info to help determine an appropriate size? I can try to draw out a room layout with walls and dimensions, just ran out of day today....See MorePlease help with living room design/layout!! (Update w/pics)
Comments (17)I think the sofa is too big for the room and for the furniture.....return it and keep looking.....you could take one of the end tables with you when you shop to see if the scale works with the table.....you might consider something long and sleek and not so fat....... I found these pics for inspiration for sofa and white rooms......the rug is minimasslist in pattern, so you might consider going that design way. Lots of legs in the room but gives a lighter look for more furnishing in the room. long low leggy with a low leggy chaise end. doable Again smaller tables with slim lined sofa with long low leggy.....your room is not really roomy so you are on the right track for mcm. Also tried to find white paint.....which is your room color choice?...See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
