I agree with Paul, you need to consult with a wood stove installer. I think the safest would be to have a stack separate for the furnace. I know of some situations that two wood units share a stack but only one runs at a time. My parents have a wood furnace in the basement that runs into a ceramic tile chimney. One is a wood furnace and the other is a wood insert. There is no need to run both at the same time so they don't.

may_flowers-believe me I have tried that approach. I have went round and round and to him a stove is a stove. It cooks food and he doesn't feel there is much difference between say a $800 stove and a $2k stove. I have used the tool analogy (and he doesn't buy top of the line but a good middle of the line which is where I feel I am at with the stove). I might have him come along and have a demo at the appliance store and see if that helps. He thinks we don't 'need' convection (doesn't help that his mother struggles with hers), electric oven, etc etc. He has agreed that he prefers a slide in and that also ups the $$$. He has a total mental block when it comes to appliances. I don't really care as much about any of the others but this one - it is an uphill battle! Because it's a new build I fear by the time we get to the appliances there won't be much left anyhow if we go over budget like it sounds most people do! Hopefully this is the worst of what we disagree on. Most other things we are on the same page and I am grateful for that. Because as of right now we are making the switch to gas I have been researching btu's and all that goes with that - he has no idea about it and I did not so gently point out the other day that they DO matter. He sees it as strictly cash outlay and that he could buy me 2 stoves or 3 for the price of a few I have looked at.

I have that exact Thermador downdraft model paired with a Thermador induction cooktop. It works surprisingly well but, of course, not as good as an old fashioned overhead hood. However, it works much better than the downdraft that was built into the Jenn-Air cooktop that it replaced. I'm sure you are aware of this but the blower is purchased separately so you need to account for it when calculating your total cost. I do not use the recirculation module as my house was built for a downdraft and was piped to vent down into the floor and then out the side of the house. When it was first installed it vibrated very badly except at the highest speed. After having Thermador out a couple of times we determined it was a faulty blower, it appeared as though it must've been dropped or suffered an impact of some sort prior to installation. They replaced it and all has been well since. I was very happy with the support I got from Thermador. I don't know anything about the Cattura but I do like that it has a built-in light. The Thermador does not have a light and there are times that I wish it did. Also, I like the look of the electronic controls on the Cattura. The Thermador has a simple analog knob with low, medium and high settings that you push to raise and lower the unit. It also looks like the Cattura is taller. The filters on the Thermador are designed to be just tossed into the dishwasher and reused, which is nice, whereas it looks like the filters on the Cattura need to be replaced every 3 to 6 months. I've never seen or heard of the Cattura so I couldn't tell you if the build quality and performance is on par with the Thermador.

On the top right the distance is 64.5" and the bottom right the distance is 52". Yes! After much thought my husband and I agreed that 'getting rid' of two doors makes the most sense. In this design, the refrigerator will be placed where the former door to the front porch was. We decided that it was fine to get rid of this door because the porch it opens to has another access point and faces a road.
