Help--shower tile covered with grout
Comments (2)I found the best thing to remove dried on grout is a plastic rectangular scouring pad. You know the kind you buy from the grocery store. Mine are made from recycled beverage containers, so I assume that means plastic. The label on mine said test in an inconspicuous place, and not to be used on highly polished surfaces. I'm not sure about your glass tiles, are they not getting scratched from the sandpaper? On my unglazed porcelain tiles, the colour from the scouring pad actually comes off on my tile, at first I panicked, but that colour washes off quite easily. I figured out through trial and error, that if I saw the colour on the tile, that meant there was still some grout present (guess the fibres are being caught by the sanded grout), if there is no colour, all the grout is gone. My grout is a very similar colour to my tile, so not always easy to tell if there's any there....See MoreBasement tile grout sweating
Comments (8)"Just not sure how to prove the water penetration to the builder. I may have to bring in some professionals to test for moisture / water seepage...what should they do?" said Joe from the Hammer. You don't have to prove anything to the builder! Let alone hire outside professionals to buttress your case. Nor provide the builder with the fix. If you're unsatisfied with the builder's response, you must file a claim with TARION before your warranty expires. TARION inspects and decides. And even their initial decision can be appealed. As well, if you start applying useless and counterproductive remedies, the builder will claim to TARION that you are causing the problem. Builders depend on dragging such consumer complaints out past the deadline. Stop playing along....See MoreHelp with grout lines and tile cracks in ceramic tiled shower
Comments (21)No, you can’t see if waterproofing is there without tearing things out and likely damaging the waterproofing. I will echo HB’s caution to not beat yourself up. It is easy to get into a heap of trouble when buying a house. We bought this one knowing it had foundation work done that was warranted and the warranty transferred to us. Six years later, we learned that the front living room and foyer of the house, which was on a slab foundation, had a big crack down the middle of the slab and had fallen a good four to six inches. Yes, the foundation piers that had been put in were working fine and were guaranteed. But the foundation repair company had advised the homeowner that he needed 12 piers, and he only did six. The right side and front were supported, but left side was still sinking. The home owner had hidden this from us by putting in a false floor and putting thick carpet over it. It turns out that the front room was sunken 6 inches lower than the adjacent foyer when it was built in the 1970s. The owner used that six inches to put in a kind of floating floor with 2 x 4s, shimmed to level with wood shims, with a plywood subfloor on top. This was not a first house for us. It was my 4th house, and we hired an inspector who my friend had used and who was supposed to be picky. He did not notice that room seemed odd, with a 1 inch drop. It cost us six months of construction living and $40,000....See MorePlease voting help 1.shower wall tile 2.shower floor tile &3.bath tile
Comments (35)I believe the difference in color is too great with the white and brown. Why? 3 reasons 1. The products that are cemented to the building you will not redo anytime soon. Messy , dirty, expensive and just not worth the trouble 2. When you add a product to the building structure. Windows , floors they must last a long time. Durability, wear and tear, and STYLE. All equal a story of when the home was designed. The look over a period of time 10 years + and the home will become "out of date" Needs a face lift . 3. The homes we admire, the Museums, Churches, Libraries, Opera House have one common thread. At a glance they are timeless. Built in 1940, 1990 etc The crystal clear item is not seen For this reason I would not go "trendy". Generally our first choice is the right one. Simple and elegant How do you change this ad time moves on. Color Bedroom a change of bedspread. Bathroom towels become a dark navy or deep forest green. Yellow for spring Paint a wall blue, hang a piece of art The change is simple and your money well spent for resale Take a moment to do another board Remove the brown and replace with a neutral. Try an Odegard runner - There are so many options Enjoy...See MoreRebekah Gibbs
