Tell me about Paul Bardens Treasure Trail...
Comments (2)I'm a fan of Treasure Trail. This is the beginning of its third year in my garden and with the growth she's putting on this spring she will really come into her own. While I love her flowers the best thing I can tell you about her is that she is bullet-proof to disease in my garden. Her leaves are leathery dark green and very shinny. Her mossing is heavier than Unconditional Love, Mel Hulse, and Red Moss Rambler. The last two are new additions this year but they are both budding out enough to tell already. Treasure Trail has grown to just over 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide. She is covers with buds right now and in a week or so will really explode with color. I've found her to be a thirsty rose, more so than the roses around her. Now what you probably really want to know about are her blooms. They are as pretty as the pictures you will see of her of HMF. They are 3 inches across with pink petals than yellow to a center button-eye. They do not have much fragrance, other than the mossing scent, but flowers last a very long time. One other think about the color, they have a slight mauve overlay of color sometimes. I'm very happy with Treasure Trail. Comments (11)Cynthia, thanks for the info on Siren's Keep. I'm glad yours is adjusting well to your yard. I know I'm pushing it by ordering bands in the fall but my plan is to pot them into 1 gallon containers and keep them in a sheltered spot this winter. Usually I plant bands directly into the ground. I've never lost a rose by doing this, even with the tiny bands. But that was in spring or early summer, not fall. So I will play it safe this time. Is it hard to pinch off the buds? I find it to be. Although I know it's for the greater good of the rose, I feel bad to deprive it from blooming. Silly, I suppose. I recently transplanted 6 roses and I have been pinching off the buds, but I really don't want to. :). Good luck with your roses, Shelley...See MorePaul Barden’s Whetstone Garden
Comments (10)Thank you everyone. I don’t know if Paul is online much anymore, but if he happens to stumble upon this post at some point- I want him to know how much this beautiful rose (and the entire bed of his roses) has given me in the midst of an incredibly difficult year....See Moresome of the Paul Barden Roses now restocked at RVR
Comments (148)Darn you two--Mme Hardy is one of the few once-bloomers I'm hemming and hawwing about. I was thinking Boule de Neige might be similar with the button eye, which is why I sprang for that instead. David Austin loved the flower shape of BdN. I've also got Commandant Beaurepaire somewhere--maybe a dead twig--which is or isn't remontant depending on whom you ask. I'll find a place for a once-bloomer someplace, but it has to be absolutely spectacular....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
