We have installed 6 Toto toilets between 2 homes and been extremely pleased with all of them going on over a decade now from the first installations. Can't remember the names but Drake sounds very familiar. I know for sure that we intentionally selected toilets with the larger of water capacities that Toto offered to avoid that very thing. I'd go with the bigger one.

Toto Drake all the way

We've got a Drake in our powder room and we're pleased with it.

Toto Drake duo flush is the best. Installed a non-Toto (Costco special) bidet seat on it, it's everyone's favorite bathroom. :-)

I have Toto drake in 3 bathrooms, love it. If I were to change anything, it would be to add the bidet seat.

I wouldn't want the MS442124CEF Nexus because the "Universal" rim height, at 16-1/8" is 1-1/2" higher than that of the CST744S Drake "Regular" height at 14-5/8". At build.com, the Nexus is also $543 whereas the Drake is $228 + seat. I have two Drakes without the SanaGloss glaze and they stay clean just fine.

The MS642124CEFG Nexus one-piece is even more at $774.

I wish they'd bring back the old "promenade". I hate the look of the new one.

We have 3 Toto Drakes. All bad. Weak flush, no way to get parts, or to replace with better parts.

Always need cleaning - like daily!

ETA - we have 2 American Standard toilets as well. Different models, but both much better than the Totos.

I have two Toto toilets - one in master and one in powder room and they are the best.

I have the Toto washlet in the master bath and the toilet also has the non-stick special finish. Between the washlet pre-wetting the sides as I approach and the special finish, no smears and nothing sticks. The toilet almost cleans itself.

I love the washlet. I got a toilet with the Connect+ feature so that there is only the standard toilet connection needed and not a second one for the washlet. The less to clean the better and it looks sleeker. Both of my Toto toilets are one piece and skirted - again to minimize cleaning and places where dirt can accumulate.

You have to treat Toto toilets gently with cleaning or you can wear away the easy-clean finish with which they are manufactured. All I ever use is water with 1/8 teaspoon or so of gentle dishwashing liquid like Dawn added to a whole spray bottle and soft towels. I use a brush only with no cleaner in the bowl. Perfect cleaning every time for years now with this method on all my Toto toilets.

The Drake and Drake II are different products. There are also many different models of each. There are round bowl and elongated bowl models. Drake models provide up to 1.6 gallons per flush -- I made sure to buy this one. The maximum of the Drake II is 1.28 and some are as low as 1.0.

Which model is best to avoid the smearing issue of cost is not an issue for toto toilet ?

Get the Toto with the most water per flush if that is a concern. All Toto toilets are economical with water, but some use more than others, and the ones that use more water seem to get better reviews for clean flushes.

My friend has 5 Drakes at her house (none have washlets) and I much prefer our Nexus with washlet. The washlet is AWESOME and we will never purchase another toilet without a washlet and autoflush!!

Regarding skid marks, I have a health issue that results in frequent skid marks. I've discovered that if I double flush and then leave the (clean) water in the bowl, more than 90% of the time the marks disappear by themselves within a few hours!

It's truly incredible -- I don't know if it's the coating on the bowl and/or the electrically charged water that gets sprayed but for those of you with this feature, give it a try! You may discover you don't need to get out your toilet brush/cleaners to clean your skid marks. ;-)

A few months ago I purchased Lysol toilet bowl cleaner with Hydrogen Peroxide because I saw the slightest film/staining in my bowl. I may try the Dawn spray trick but honestly I rarely ever clean the bowl because there's not much to clean!

For those of you with sanigloss, what brush do you use to clean your toilet bowl? I just squirt the product into the bowl, flush, and if necessary wipe off any stuck on product with toilet paper. I've never used a brush because I'm afraid of damaging the special coating.

@Julie K - I also have a Toto toilet with the Sana finish as well as the washlet that sprays down the bowl as you sit down. It also has some kind of deodorizing filter as I can hear some whirring when I leave the bathroom.

Zero problems with any kind of skid markets and the toilet essentally cleans itself which I think is a combination of the finish and the washlet.

I bought silicone brushes from amazon when I got the toilets as those were recommended for the finish. I also use a non-acidic toilet bowl cleaner which is supposed to be safer. A plus is that I have marble floors and the non-acidic toilet bowl cleaner is also safe for marble and other stone surfaces.

@Helen, I have the same toilet and washlet as you! :) What brush did you purchase to clean your toilet?

@Julie K - It has been awhile since I bought but just google "silicone toilet brush" or search on amazon.

Instead of having scratchy bristles, they have the soft rubbery silicone nubs. Since our toilets don't require any kind of scrubbing these are great because all I have ever done is kind of spread the cleansing water around with the brush which I think somewhat sanitizes them. But never any need to scrub - it's been over 3 years and everything is still as good as new.

@Julie K and @Helen- What is the model of your Toto toilet? Are you guys still happy with it. I need to buy three of them.
