Kohler CImarron vs Toto Drake toilets
Comments (3)cindyonthebay, Kohler toilets have some of the best television advertising ever. The Kohler Cimarron is good at geting the big stuff down the pipe. However, numerous comments in the toilet forum at Terry Love's Toilet Forum -- http://www.terrylove.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?3-Toilet-Forum-discussions -- suggest that if you have a Cimarron you will need to perfect your bowl brushing technique to alleviate what is delicately called "streaking." Toto ("Dual Cyclone") and Inax ("Dual Vortex") toilets flush the big stuff at least as well as the Cimarron, and leave the bowl with fewer "streaks." Comments (20)We've had our Totos (Dartmouth, Plymouth) for several years now and, while they were a huge improvement on the builder-grade Crane models they replaced, they're not perfect. But what is? We've had to unclog them several times but that doesn't begin to compare with the almost daily problems we had with our previous toilets. We've also had to replace the flappers - once on each toilet. No big deal - we just keep an extra flapper ($10) on hand now. The impression I have from reading CR and others over the years is that other companies have improved their products and, as a result, you can probably find any number of good toilets out there now. Personally though, if I had to buy another toilet today I'd stick with Toto because they always seem to be on the cutting edge of toilet technology and everyone else has to work to keep up....See MoreToto Guinevere vs. Kohler Kathryn... Comments (7)We currently have two TOTO Ultramax and we LOVE them. I just purchased my 3rd TOTO online. I bought a skirted toilet that will be easier to clean w/o the nooks and crannies. Our family owned many expensive American Standards, Kohler and other crap brands and had problems with all them clogging (several times a day). The plumber felt bad taking our $$$ that he finally told us to buy a TOTO or Gerber. We've been problem free for the last 3 years and no longer own a plunger or a snake. You will not find TOTO in HD or Lowes, only at high end plumbing stores. You can find the Kohler Kathryn at either Lowes....See MoreToto UltraMax II one-piece or Kohler Cimarron 2-piece toilet?
Comments (11)dianne47: "Toto is the best toilet brand, hands down." Toto designs and makes excellent toilets; we purchased one (Vespin II, the skirted version of the Drake II) ourselves when we remodeled one of our bathrooms a little over a year ago, and it is the best toilet we ever have had in a home. And Toto has been in the North American marketplace for some time, so a lot of Americans have heard of and owned and used Totos. But Inax, Toto's major rival in Japan, designs and makes toilets that are every bit as good as Toto toilets, and some would argue that some Inax models are better than their Toto counterparts. Inax (which got its start early in the 20th century with an American connection when Frank Lloyd Wright wanted a custom specialty tile made for a major commission for a building in Japan) only recently has begun to establish a North American toehold, so you will not see as much discussion of Inax as of Toto; but those who have bought and used Inax toilets are just as enthusiastic as those who sing praises of their Totos. (Both Toto and Inax use American-sourced internals: flapper valves, etc., in their North American models, so parts availability is not a problem with either.) No doubt that janesylvia would be happy with a Toto; but she would be every bit as happy, maybe even happier, with, say, an Inax Dover one-piece or the less expensive two-piece Inax Rio Grande, which can be had in a dual flush configuration.
