Any experience with greenhouse in-floor heat and hot tub as reservoir?

I'm in the process of planning out a greenhouse with radiant floor heat (I live west of Prince George, BC, so winters are long and cold). I was also toying with the idea of using a hot tub as the reservoir for the extra hot water from the coil in the wood stove (which is in the house). I don't know of anyone or any businesses around that could help plan all this out and it's the math that I need to make sure I'm not going to make a great big mess. Any ideas? Plans? Directions?

Okay first you will be stoking that fire many times a day in the winter if you really want to use the greenhouse. as for using the hot tub as a reservoir you will need to talk to someone in the radiant floor business to find out if doable at all. Radiant floor heating is usually a closed circuit so not sure how air into the lines all the time would work at all. We have friends with wood fired boiler for radiant floor heating in a home and it requires a lot of loading the fire and they have a huge burner out side.that takes logs .

yeah, that makes sense re: closed circuit/air in the lines. regarding running the boiler, definitely.i have a wood stove in the house that runs 8/12 months of the year for sure - it's my primary heat source. i recently put a basement under the house and it's prepped for infloor heating, though i don't have it hooked up yet. there's a unit made by a company called "walltherm" that is certified for interior use and has a coil in it, so i don't need the outdoor boiler. it would be heating all domestic hot water as well. i will put in radiant heat in the greenhouse, but it was the hot tub that was the question.

xc60 - sounds great - I know just enough to be dangerous. I love this forum. I learn more from it than going to the plumbing showrooms. katmomma, you will have to search this forum for air tubs. I can help you with selecting drop in tubs based on shape, size, quality. You basically want a good quality air tub without the price tag. Mirabelle tubs are well designed, deep and I see that folks on this forum have purchased them as air tubs. They are private label for Ferguson (made by Clarke). I like the feel of their acrylic better than Kohler. I don't see folks talking about Kohler air tubs but they make a solid whirlpool and are priced right. I do not know how the Jacuzzi air tubs are but I personally like their designs - they are priced right for you too. Jason, owned by the former Jacuzzi folks, can get pricey. Same with MTI, Hydrosystems, and Americh. Maax tubs are nice but I see on this forum that folks say that their air tubs are loud.

I bought an AMERICH WRIGHT base level acrylic tub for $1,000 from a bath and kitchen store in 2017 and it is a piece of plastic. After two years It was stained, difficult to clean and never feels entirely clean, the caulk around the tub has needed replacement several times, and the Americh label partly wore off almost immediately. I never use any abrasive cleaning products (all organic). When I contacted the manufacturer they pointed out that I the care instructions said I was supposed to WAX my tub with high-quality carnauba paste type wax. Wax my tub? They also referred me to a very expensive tub cosmetic repair company. Unfortunately I removed an old enamel tub instead of refinishing it. Number 1 worst decision in my remodel after seeking lots of advice. I dream of ripping this one out and replacing it with an enamel tub. Taking a bath in an acrylic tub feels cheap even though it wasn't..

If you want heat that will warm the objects in front of it, look at radiant electric heaters called cove heaters that are mounted up by the ceiling. The heat from them "shines" down in front of them and heats any objects in their "line of sight." I have one in my bathroom. If you put one across from the tub, then keep the curtain or door open, it would warm the metal of the tub when it is on. The tub then releases the heat as the room cools when the heater is off. When the room cools enough, the thermostat turns the heater back on. When I want the bathroom toasty for a shower, I turn it up to 80 for a while before I shower. @Y: I have not used Cascade yet. The technician said that because it has Dawn in the formula, it gets very sudsy. I am back to using 1/2 tab of the Miele detergent and have taken out the AutoDos disk. My technician also advised against using rinse agent and no salt because I have a softener. He thinks the AutoDos settings are too high but it would require a firmware update to change how the AutoDos is dispensed and Miele doesn't seem to be in any rush to do that. He also thinks that the stainless steel that is used in these newer models is different and it may not rinse completely clean. This is quite disappointing. I specifically bought the higher end model for the convenience of the AutoDos but now I can't use it because of the filming. @dadoes: I have never added Miele salt to my dishwasher because I have a whole house water softener and my machine has never given me an Add Salt flag. I can't remember if the onboard softenere was disabled when installed since the installation team knew I had a softener.
