Please help me decorate my looong fireplace by EASTER!!
Comments (33)Less is definitely more here, otherwise it all begins to look cheap and tacky, and that would be a shame. I have a rather similar fireplace, although mine at least has the firebox in the middle. I hope you don't mind if I add a picture of mine because it's so very similar to yours. I tried to keep it simple. If you don't use those fireplace tools I would eliminate them. Don't have anything that you don't love or that you think is beautiful....See MoreWant to update my fireplace. Struggling.
Comments (6)Everything appears to be in a cool palette except for the built-in cabinetry and surround. The more contemporary backsplash is in conflict with the fluted trim on the FP and cabinets flanking it. Perhaps just removing the trim pieces and replacing with something simpler, and then painting all the wood in a cooler palette would be the right choice for you. You could use the gray from the backsplash. If you don't want to get into painting the kitchen cabs, you could simply paint the FP and the leave the remaining cabinetry as it is. You'll want to find a color that can transition between the warm and cool tones you have going though. Perhaps a grey-greige would work....See MoreNeed help decorating around TV
Comments (7)I'm assuming you're going to keep the console for now. I would move it towards the window with nothing between it and the window. Right now it is just off-center and not looking balanced. Then clear away everything to the right of the TV. The small picture to the left of the window is squashed in and should be moved elsewhere too. No ladder. No plant on the ledge above the window. Keep the focus of the room low. It would be helpful to have a picture of that wall from wider back, because I don't think your large picture should be on that upper wall space. IMO that upper area should be blank and the art work elsewhere, maybe to the left of the TV with a small cabinet under it. I'd also move the small pictures that are on the shelf below the TV. Arrange them on a picture ledge (Ikea has them) in a hallway at eye level. They can't really be seen where they are, and they are too small to look good. Buy 4 wide wood or wicker baskets and put them on those shelves. Empty or with useful stuff in them....See MoreHelp me decorate my fireplace accent wall
Comments (4)Not a pro, but here are my thoughts... I think your mantle is cluttered, I'd clear the small items and replace w/ a few, more substantial objects (a plant, a vase, large candle sticks, something seasonal, etc). The pic above the fireplace is pretty - but the dimensions seem off as it's nearly the same width as the fireplace, I wonder if it would look better 6-8 inches above sofa? The black picture frames are pretty, but they might be too high, double check they're at the right height - the middle of the art should be 57-60 inches off the ground. Maybe it's just the angle of the pic - but I'd center the sofa (facing the fireplace) and the rug with the fireplace. It's a real pretty space, clean & cozy :-)...See MoreTheresa Janssen
