Backyard living space dilemma?
Comments (4)Your own interests and desires would be the primary determining factors as to what should be in your yard. Someone else could help you figure out what to build/install in order to best satisfy those wants and needs. It looks like you need a landscape designer or architect to help you with a master plan. If there is to be a roofed structure, you'll want to be cautious about its impeding views from the inside, or possibly limiting light to the inside of the house. It looks like there might be a subterranean entrance that connects with the patio...? Is the patio well used? It seems a bit distant from the grill area....See MoreRaising the roofline
Comments (2)IMO raising the roof will have minimal effect on enhancing the view since you are still just human height. I agree to raise a roof involves an architect , really rebuilding the whole upper section to make it work wit the main floor and honestly not IMO worth the money not to mention IMO a 2 storey house there might not look all that good either. If this was mine I would do sliding patio doors where the windows are a new deck with metal and glass railings to allow the view and i think a multi level deck instead of that skimpy one you have now would aslo give you a nice outdoor living space ....See Moreoutdoor design dilemma! Comments (3)If you figure out the bug issue, the side yard looks big enough for a sofa seating area and maybe round table for dining. You could put down some stones and maybe cement pavers. Teak is a good wood for outdoor furniture or you could try metal. If the budget it tighter, shipping palettes or the plasticized rattan outdoor sofas are easy to care for. And yes get winter tarps if concerned about Northern winters and cold. Good luck! Enjoy the outdoors! We eat almost every meal outdoors when the weather permits. Good luck!...See MorePatio / backyard / outdoor living ideas
Comments (16)Be absolutely certain that the heat from the fire pit will not be near any vegetation you want to preserve. The heat that rises from a fire pit is considerable and it can damage nearby upper vegetation. That's why they need so much room around them, for the heat to dissipate. Also for sparks. We don't use our fire pit a whole lot. When we use it we really enjoy it, but it's not like we are having a campfire every weekend. So plan for how you will use and decorate the area for when it is not in use, which will be more time than when it is in use. We have some planters that we decorate with and move them when we have a fire. Oh, and also plan for some type of wood storage nearby. I wish I could have a snazzy decorated woodbox. As it is, we have a metal wood rack covered by a tarp, not the most attractive landscape feature . . ....See MoreYardvaark
