Where do all these tiger lilies come from?
Comments (2)I went to a daylily farm once and bought some plants. I bought two fans of a nice cream colored tetraploid and when it bloomed, one fan had a nice creamy colored flower. The second fan had the orange flower of one of the tiger, ditch or whatever you call the 'wild' daylilies. Apparently, the daylily farm had them growing close to the other daylilies. They propagate by underground rhizome, and had sent a fan up beside my creamy tetraploid. I dug the whole thing up, carefully separated them and sifted through the dirt to make sure no rhizomes had escaped me. I replanted them in separate places. Probably the easiest way for you to get rid of them is to dig everything out of the area of your daylilies, at least 6 inches deep and at least 3 feet adjacent. Put a root barrier around the plot you want to plant the tetraploid daylilies in and fill with fresh soil that you are sure is free of rhizomes. Carefully clean the dirt off your tetraploids and replant them. Spread the old soil out and watch it for new daylilies sprouting from the old tiger daylilies or their rhizomes. Dig those out while they are small and dispose of. Good luck, Ed...See MoreWhere are all these flies coming from??
Comments (2)Amy -- where do you live? There was a piece on WTNH yesterday about a family in Mansfield, CT, who are being overrun by flies... all because an adjacent farmer started using chicken manure this year. Just wondered if you're near this area and/or near a farm? Here is a link that might be useful: WTNH report on fly infestation...See MoreWhere do all the shelter/rescue/craigslist dogs come from?
Comments (8)The Labrador is the most over Breed breed of dog in the USA and it is also the Number one Killed dog here as well. I work for a vet and I can tell you "I have seen it all". If the dog is not going to be used for what they were breed to do. Hunting, Herding, Guarding, Family pet, ect.... and the puppies are not going to go too people that will use them for what they were breed to do then what are you breeding them for. All dogs make good pets not all people make good dog owners! Most people that I see got the pup because its "SO CUTE", until one day they come to the realization that it has now grown into a "Not so CUTE" dog. No one took the time to teach it manners or get it fixed no training at all really. Now they don't want it anymore! no one will take! the shelters charge a relinquish fee that they do not want to pay. So WHAT DO THEY DO WITH IT? They take it for a ride and "DUMP" it off someplace far from home. If it is lucky Animal control will pick it up and it will then go to a shelter, MIGHT get adopted!!! most often it will be EUTH. If it is not so lucky it will get hit by a car or shot by someone because it is not supposed to be there. If people would do a little home work, before they buy a dog the disappointment in there dogs would not happen as often. SO often they say to use"We had no idea this breed of dog was so hyper or got so big". We had one family that had 6 dogs in there back yard! All were related, all were unaltered, all had not had one bit of training. No rescue had room for them no one wanted to adopt them, the family had no other choice but to Euth. all 6 dogs, $300 bucks. It cost them. Now when they found the first dog and decided to keep her, a spay would have cost them $75 bucks. What part of that story do people not get?? Some days I wonder what the hell is wrong with some people. I go home some days with a very heavy heart because of the poor animals we treated or killed that day. So goes life for our four footed friends. I have 4 little dogs I took home rater than see them Euth. because no one wanted them! They are all AWESOME, LOVING, Family to Dh and myself....See MoreWhere is all this dust in my finish coming from?!
Comments (6)Sound's like you are doing all the right things so I suspect you are either failing to get the brush clean or at least failed getting it clean one time in the past. If the brush dry's with traces of finish on it the finish crack's into the equivalent of dust next time bristles are flexed. The dust is deposited in can as you dip brush. From that point on there will be dust in finish. If you are frugal and suspect can has been contaminated, strain through pantyhose or coffee filter. Buy quality brushes and take care of them. Even professionals can't make cheap brushes work well. I have brushes over 30 years old that still work fine so buying new brushes isn't always the answer. If you have a brush with dry paint in the heel or you are unsure how well a brush has been cleaned of clear coat, soak it in brush cleaner to make it good as new. I do not use brush cleaner often, only to rejuvenate brushes that have been neglected. If one plan's doing much finishing,a room filter can be a big help. Here's a cobbled up version that can be duplicated with better material if desired. Tape a pleated paper furnace filter to intake side of box fan. Improvement can be realized by adding a few feet of intake/outflow duct taping cardboard boxes together. I have 2,one built using a 3 speed Broan range hood and one useing a 2 ton furnace 3 speed blower. I have non-insulated flex duct intake/outflow that can be easily repositioned. I usually don't sand between coats because I believe sanding often result's in more harm than good....See Morepolardream
