My husband is chomping at the bit to paint it white. I know that my daugher will most likely have the door open all/most of the time. My gut tells me since it's a very large closet (almost another bedroom in itself) and has lots of light, that I should go with a color (maybe the same color as the adjacent bathroom which is Turquoise Mist (Porter).

Lots of really good light is necessary. Trying to differentiate between the navy blue pants and the black pants and then trying to find socks that match is hard without good lighting. I'm always having to bring my stuff out of the closet into the bedroom where the light is better to figure it out. I have a mix of hangers - padded ones for blouses, clipped ones for skirts, my Dh likes wooden ones for suit jackets and I like really strong ones for my jeans - and those are really hard to find these days. Costco often sells nice packages of hangers. Think about what you are storing other than clothes - shoes, purses (I have a deeper shelf at the top for purses so as to keep those pesky straps under control and they are in cubbies that hold about 4 purses each), accessories such as scarves, belts.

We were faced with this exact question when we renovated last year. Our closet is 5x6 so we can hang on both sides but our ensuite is the same size as yours. What we were able to do however was to borrow a bit of space from the main bathroom and enlarge the ensuite shower stall. The plumbing for the ensuite shower stall backs onto the plumbing wall for the bath/shower combo in the main bathroom. We moved the main bathroom bath/shower stall down 16" taking over some room of an underused hall storage space and then enlarged the shower stall. Our GC said that because most people are doing away with bathtubs in ensuites (at least in our area) that a larger shower stall is of more value and it allowed us to keep our "walk-in" closet. We still only have one sink in the bathroom and there is no doubt it is still small. In the room that was left in the hall storage we just put in a bunch of shelves for storage of TP, kleenex, lightbulbs etc. Our house is a 1972 post and beam and people don't expect grandiose ensuite bathrooms in them so we thought this was a great compromise. Don't know if any of this helps but it might.

Loving the thoughts, and I’ve been battling so many different ideas here. The master at the back has been intriguing, as the ceiling would be easy to vault above that side, and could open up the space as well. To the previous comments, this house has a basement that I can easily open the basements, so plumbing on the right side would remain a straight through path if I keep it aligned. The laundry room variation is a great thought, although it would make me somewhat uncomfortable as the “kids” bathroom needs to be usable for visitors needing to go... we decided against a kids bathtub, as baths are supervised while they are young, or earlier in the evening as they get older (I really don’t see the point of a bath... but my wife insist on a freestanding one). I’ll have finalized measurements on Monday, and will take these design thoughts back into a new diagram. Your feedback has been awesome!
