Integrated fridge depth next to counter top
Comments (7)I too have the same concern, we did Thermador integrated panel ready, the contractor has part of the box constructed and the framing for the fridge is flush with the lower cabinet, the fridge is at the end of a 36 inch cabinet/counter run, and I'm worried that the countertop is going to stick out past the panel fridge doors? We really wanted that seamless look, but I'm worried our cabinet guy didn't factor in clearance for the counter overhang? will it look weird for the countertop do be proud of the panel fridge door, or will the panel/door hinge help factor in that 3/4 inch of countertop, I'm fine if it's flush, but I'm worried it won't be? The fridge is the end piece on that wall, so it might not look weird...but??? Any advice? Worst case scenario we make them redo the framing for the fridge to be flush with counter?...See MoreI keep getting told I'm crazy to want butcher block countertops
Comments (50)My husband would prefer the local marble be used around the perimeter, which may need to happen because there's a chance the butcher block manufacturers won't ship it with the sink hole cut as it may not be stable enough, and then we're back to the same place we were at with the Ikea countertops. Well not quite, but still needing to find a finishing carpenter willing to make that cut. It turns out that not even the butcher block makers like cutting undermount sink holes. BUT... the marble would be standard 1.25" tall, and our cabinet boxes are 34" from the floor. The minimum height of the cooktop surface of the induction range we've purchased is 36". I feel like a 3/4" difference between the counter height and cooktop is more of a deal breaker for me than the chance of the butcher block getting gunky around the sink. I can get the butcher block at 1.75" so there would just be a 1/4" difference between the cooktop and countertop....See MoreConfused! Do I need counter-depth fridge?
Comments (23)I don't like it when there's a full fridge surround and the unit sticks out six inches, but a standard, old fashioned gap with a full sized fridge looks fine to me. It's more about whether it looks like you got the wrong size fridge for the design than whether the design works with a stick outy fridge. I've also seen where there's a full fridge surround that itself sticks out six inches. That's not ideal because it often looks clunky, but then the fridge doesn't stick out of the surround and doesn't look like a mistake. Much of this depends on what the norms are in your area. If build-in or integrated is the norm, having a big box store full sized fridge sticking out from a shorter surround is going to look relatively bad. In that case, a full surround properly fitted to the fridge, is the best idea, possibly with the fridge recessed into the rear wall. If you live in a place where most people have free standing fridges, and most aren't in built in surrounds, then a free standing fridge (full or counter depth) in a gap or a correctly sized surround, looks fine. If most kitchens have the fridge outside of the cabinets altogether--just in the open space at the end rather than in a designated space, any kind of freestanding fridge looks fine....See MoreAny Regrets Switching From Regular-Depth to Counter-Depth Fridge?
Comments (49)We're a family of five. We eat lots of produce and I cook at least once a day. I bought a CD Electrolux all fridge a few years ago and don't regret it. The one thing it doesn't fit well is a box of those huge 16" take-and-bake pizzas. I have to remove them from the box or clear a shelf that doesn't have a door shelf across from it when closed. My produce may overflow the available space in my drawer for a day or two, but that's not really an issue. I really love that it doesn't intrude on my aisle because the fridge location in this house is stupid. FWIW, my fancy Gaggenau oven doesn't fit those pizzas, either. I have to cut them in half. I wouldn't trade my oven for one that did. It's my precious....See Morejulieste
