Pantry on each side of frig....anybody do this?
Comments (24)So this isn't the greatest picture (and please note this is an UNFINISHED kitchen and sorry I just realized my butt is in the picture because my DH took it while I was cleaning the glass on the range...) but you might be able to make out the 18" pantries flanking the 48" SZ. The doors open left and right 90 degrees, just like a SxS, which works perfectly as our drop zone is on the island across the aisle (galley style kitchen layout is on page 7 in the gallery kitchen forum). All are 27" pullouts (set in 30" deep cabinets) and completely adjustable to whatever heights I want. Note: The top of the pantry is at 60" - I didn't think pullouts any higher than that would be of much use. I keep extra appliances (slow cooker, rice cooker, colandar, roasting racks, etc) in the upper cabinets above the pantry. This is not quite enough space for us so I use the cabinet under the prep sink for big stuff like gallons of vinegar and 20# sacks of basmati rice and the weird flours that we don't use much (for making tortillas). I also have a big hall closet that I use for cases of big cans (I shop primarily at Costco). Hope this helps your thinking/planning a bit....See MoreTv hanging on a wall ,next wall is fireplace with space on each side

Comments (4)Place the sofa facing the FP and a round glass and metal coffee table 18" or less from it. You need a rug at least 2 feet wider than the sofa that can sit 12-15" from the hearth and slip under the front 1/3 of the sofa. Use painter's tape to tape it out on the floor and if it isn't a standard size, go up one standard size. The two chairs look cool as art, but are extremely uncomfortable, especially for sitting through a movie on TV. If you can return them for pair of comfortable armchairs your bum will happier in the long run. If you get swivel chairs it will be even better for turning to watch TV, as I would place them either opposite the window or flanking the sofa and facing each other over the coffee table. I would put matching consoles either side of the FP. The TV gear can go in the one under it. You can set the TV on a swivel base or wall mount it on an articulated arm. Use a table lamp and some accessories on the left one....See MoreWhat should I do to this enormous floor to ceiling 3 sided fireplace?
Comments (32)Hope finding the brick above gives you a little peace of mind. Years ago, (dating myself) we had an oval shaped cast iron wood burning heater downstairs and a metal shelf hung between rafters in the ceiling to hold brick above the ceiling and thru the roof. The triple walled pipe attached to the back of the heater took the smoke from the heater to the brick. Covering that heater and pipe with the least possible brick or stone -- least possible expense -- would likely have resulted in a triangle shaped chimney. That is why I suspected you may find a wood burning stove or fireplace insert and some triple walled metal pipe beneath the stone -- but you may not be able to know for sure unless/until the stone is removed. Even if you eventually discover you don't like the look of the brick behind the stone downstairs much or any better than the current uneven stone, it would be easier to clad "straight/smooth" brick with something you do like than to try to alter the current stone. Also, without the stone adding to the size of the fireplace, it is likely there would be less of the floor to redo to match your new flooring. Looking forward to the "after" pics when you make your home/fireplace what you want it to be....See Moresuezbell
