Countertop meeting wall, large gap- silicone or caulk (grout color)

Hi,

I had my counter tops installed and the company cut into the wall and left a chunk missing and a large gap. I am working on fixing it; they won't do it.

My question is once I fix the wall, should I fill that space with silicone or caulk that matches the grout like I did between the rest of the counters and the kitchen. I have a tile back splash installed, but did not want a side splash. As you can see in the picture, they already placed some silicone in the corner. Should I continue that all the way down, or remove/go over that and do the caulk? The grout is a gray so it might match the wall better, but I don't want a large gap.

Am I missing a step I have to do before filling the gap? The gap seems big to me and I don't know what to do in between. The hole is not horizontal, rather vertical or on the wall, so I am stumped.

Thank you!
