1960 brick ranch question about shutters
Comments (12)Agree with Rawket Grl and Patricia, remove all the shutters. Here are two links to articles showing you why: Shutters vs Shudders History of Shutters Just because someone was too cheap (builder usually) or not knowledgeable 50 years ago, doesn't mean we keep the too small shutters on the house today. It was an error originally and best corrected now. Take a few minutes to read each of the articles so you have a fundamental understanding of where and when shutters are the right thing to do. You will never look at homes with too small shutters on the wrong size windows the same way again. That's a good thing. I like the pic Rawket Grl shows you with the charcoal/black roof and no shutters. All you need after you remove the shutters is great landscaping and a nice open wide walkway to the front door....See MoreUgly ranch house that needs new roof. Add peaks?
Comments (24)Wow, GA did a great job with that mock up. Totally a classy ranch home. How awesome, another nice American home. I THOUGHT about saying black on the fascia, but with the windows updated on the former garage, there you go. Black takes that brick to modern, and some grass and landscaping makes it timeless. A gem waiting to be polished, truly. You could certainly have the shingles removed, have a radiant barrier installed with a concealed fastener, "standing seam look alike" metal roof put on in charcoal gray color, it would have great curb appeal. https://www.muellerinc.com/roofing Their next tone, a burnished color, is pretty dark and could overwhelm the light to medium tone of your brick. You don't want a house that is dominated by the roof in your vision, just complimented by it..... The charcoal gray from this manufacturer is the perfect tone for your home imho. If you don't have Mueller in your area, do find another manufacturer and choose a color that is heat reflective and has a color warranty which is great. You could put the galvalum on, and save a bit, (that standard silvery color)but the color warranty is only 10 years, the last time I checked....See MoreShutter and door color for brick ranch
Comments (1)I’ve never seen windows and shutters mounted like that. I’d paint them charcoal, and a lighter color around the door....See MoreOrange brick 1950's ranch please help picking a new shutter color?
Comments (14)try using a latex paint remover. you can find it at the big stores. grab a stiff wire brush and a bucket of water. it should work enough so that you don't see it. I photoshopped a few doors/colors/address plaques and lights for you. see what you like. ('cuz that 1950's grandma front door needs to go along w/those shutters!) I like the black option w/copper. the copper will compliment the brick color and the black always looks good w/both I like this door. And, you might think about painting the trim around the windows (did you notice I covered up all your shutters?? looks good huh?) in a darker trim color. gave you this mahogany glass panel door. modern black numbers, a modern chair. I'd paint the other door one of these dark colors, bring in a more modern light. If black is too harsh, think about Urbane Bronze or Iron Ore. both look great w/orange brick. try something modern like this w/the numbers, potted plants, lighting, Here is an orange brick house with complimentary colors and light fixtures. another nice door color is a peacock blue, sage, blue/green, tone soft blue/green with copper and your orange brick always look good Yam color door, bronze light, warm wood and gray tones also work. Here's a door w/natural wood. black mailbox and light (but I like the others above better) are those posts cedar or painted? These color palettes are also perfect w/your brick. (don't forget to paint your side door too....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
