Thanks everyone. My intention was not to go monochromatic, however, I'm thinking this rug lends itself to many styles being neutral and not loud, and by changing out the less expensive things like curtains, pictures, room decor, I can use ANY color in there with this rug. MJLB: Thanks for the pics and suggestions, however, I've never been a fan of the traditional style rugs. I suppose my style is more casual/contemp, and no flowers, especially on a rug. Many people like them and they look great in the right setting. SQUIRREL: U 'da bomb!!! Thanks for Photoshopping. Now if I could figure out how to cut out a DR set and paste it elsewhere in that program (which I have). I love the drum light. I saw some on another site. I just may have to revisit that one once I find it again, and see what other styles and colors they have. My biggest concern is that the light I get needs to be 20" or less in height. I don't like them hanging down too low. Thought the room with all the browns looks bland, by the time I'm done with the decor, it certainly won't be. I'm a big fan of color and would rather introduce it with lesser expensive items as mentioned.

Thank you everyone for all the support! I feel much better about it all this morning. I think change is a big one. I don't do change well or easily and the last six months has been nothing but change. Even when it is good change I have a hard time with it. Last night I looked through the gallery at a bunch of rooms that had similar layouots, rug/chairs same color, and it helped me feel better. I think I had contrast on the brain but I really don't think I need that there because the dining room has a ton of contrast and pop and so do the library. This will be a nice place for the eye to rest. Before I went to bed last night I rolled it out and really, really do love the rug. Alison, I noticed that the chenille/hemp was a much softer feel too. Wish I could find a runner like this because I still need one of those between the columns (for the dog) I'd really like to find a rug that would just melt into the floor and not call attention to itself since there will be this rug on one side and the dining room rug on the other. Thank you again, everyone, for your support. Today I will get hubby to help me move furniture so we can put down the pad and the rug. I'm back to being excited again.

I like the rug. I would put the front legs of the two sofas on the rug....maybe a couple of inches. I would bring the corner chair in (upholstered one) so it is just sitting on the rug....could put a floor lamp behind/beside it. Do you really need the wooden chair in the other corner? I would put it somewhere else and bring your plant out of the corner more. Now you could try the ottoman in front of the couch/loveseat or get a smallish coffee table....probably square. I would try the ottoman first. Oh yes, forgot...If you use the ottoman as a coffee table, I would upholster the chair in the same color as the ottoman....you can brighten up things with brighter pillows. One other thing.....would you want to try your rug the other way....just to see what it looks like. I don't know what is behind the green couch you have but with rug the other way, you could have a nice conversation grouping.

I am totally willing to go 6x9, that particular rug is from West Elm and like I said it’s already my third rug. I would be happy to take any suggestions. I want to be under $500. I am in NYC so I have to do everything online. Also as I had mentioned, the pic is misleading b/c it is a wide angle iPhone pic so everything looks squeezed in. Please believe when I say 9ft width is the widest I can go. Thanks everyone for your help. Please list any suggestions here. I think some navy blue in the rug could work.
