I have some of the golden jenny. Lysimachia mummularia "Aurea" indeed. I keep mine WELL AWAY from my lawn. Here's some info I found: Hardiness Zones: 3 to 8 Height: 6 in Spread: 12 in Type: herbaceous perennial Flowers: Yellow Comments: Creeping Jenny (Vis. 1) can be used as a ground cover and will tolerate shade. As an alternative, the plant may be grown in a hanging pot. The plant also produces yellow flowers (Vis. 2). Use it with caution as Creeping Jenny can become a lawn weed. The plant prefers a moist soil and can be used near water. Propagation: Propagation is by division in autumn or spring and may be needed to keep the plant under control. Cuttings may also be used. Dianne (what a week, sorry!) I think I know what will work on your hill: Eubhorbia Cyparissias, a little spurge I have dug up on 9W, it spreads all right! I find it very pretty and interesting all season. I have it in a big corner of a bed around some dwarf evergreens it can mostly have to itself, I'm just going to put some bulbs in with it this fall. It grows about 9' tall, very bushy and filling, too tall and aggressive for growing in among other perennials as I want to do with 'Jenny', though not hard to yank out if it gets out of hand. I got six pots of Jenny, I hope I'll get them in this weekend (it's supposed to be ghastly) in several places, to see where it does best. There are supposedly Ajuga cultivars now that tolerate sun, I might try some of that too. I really like Ajuga. In my yard, once established, it hogs all the light and really COVERS the ground. No idea how well it would play with others in a bed though. I also got some creeping Phlox on sale to try out. Vinca always grows kinda sparse for me, no match for those hideous wild Artemisias (Mugwort, I think), they're my bane here. Here's a pic of the Spurge: Here is a link that might be useful:

Sue, I am about a stone's throw away from Scotts. My neighborhood, Apple Hill, is right behind their orchards. They sell their own honey there and I just know that their bees are using pollen from my flowers! I go to Scott's usually at least once a week, since I'm right here. They do have a fantastic selection AND they keep everything in good shape. I know if I get a plant there it will be hardy and happy. The advise is variable, but the folks are nice. They tend to be expensive...but there are occasional bargains and their fall sale is FANTASTIC! They also had a spring shrub and tree sale...30% off. I went crazy. Because of convenience and impulse urges, at least half of my plants have come from there. (By the way, I remember when they were only an orchard...It's been fun watching them grow. And, boy, have they grown!) (Oddly, I don't buy their apples...I go to South Glastonbury.) (Too much information?) One major caveat...do not have them do any landscaping installation. They are notorious for planting way too close to the foundation. A neighbor had them put in some foundation planting only about 3 years ago and everything has already encroached on the house, to the point that they need to be moved asap. I enjoy Comstock (and the ice cream shop next door!). I buy all my seeds there but don't usually buy plants. They do carry the Coast of Maine products which I absolutely adore, so I go there for those. Thanks for the other names. I haven't been to Broken Arrow, Quakin' Grass, or Country Flower Farms. I used to be *fanatic* about keeping a separation between all my plants, much like a young child doesn't want one food item on his/her plate to touch another. Then, I got behind in my *segregation* duties and found I quite liked the effect of many of the plants which had strayed from their boundaries into their neighbors'. Now, I am not talking about bullies and brutes like Lamiastrum (Yellow Archangel), Creeping Jenny, Bishop's Weed, etc. But plants like Lily of the Valley (Convallaria), it doesn't hurt anything, as well as false Lily of the Valley (Maianthemum), Saxifragas, and other groundcover-type plants. In addition to initially battling Enchanter's Nightshade, I also waged war on the poor little Starflower (Trientalis borealis); it kept coming up in my pea gravel paths. And I now kick myself because it is such a charming little woodland wildflower. So I've learned to really like and appreciate these two "gifts" that have strayed in from the forest. However, both are easy to pull up if they really do stray into areas where they are seriously unwanted. Cathy Olympia
