August Moon Companion plants
Comments (2)I'm working with quite a few 'August Moons' in a front raised bed and I'm using 'Heuchera' and 'Roseglow Barberry' bushes with them as well as some blue hosta, like 'Hadspen Blue' and 'Blue Angel'! I'm also using fern and several 'Stella D'oro' daylillies here and there! I can't wait for maturity for all components to see how it all comes together! You might try googling 'Lasagna Gardening' to get an idea about building up that area for more plantings! That's what I did in the bed I've just described! It works!...See MoreAugust moon?
Comments (6)get this.. its AUGUST moon ... which means it best color is in .. wait for it... AUGUST ... whats that all about??? its too soon in the season to come to any conclusions about hosta that morph color during the season ... ken...See More4 dollar 'August Moon'! What a deal...
Comments (8)I almost did not buy my August Moons because of that scare. I watch them like a hawk, but they came from a good nursery, Mason Hollow. I recently bought more HVX test strips, which I consider a good investment. If something looks wonky, I test it....so far no HVX found, but another virus took down some of my best fragrants. That REALLY hurt! I also keep most of my hosta by the nursery of origin....Hallson together, Wade Gatton together, etc....and that way any outbreak common within a nursery can stay restricted, as much as I am able, anyway. Don, that was a lot of trouble you went to tossing that August Moon....I mean, renting that dumpster and all......very dramatic....See MoreDivided August Moon leaves
Comments (4)my best advice .... dig one up and find out what is going on.. where you cant otherwise see ... underground ... on all plants... grow the roots... and the plant will follow ... unfortunately .. you cant see them.. unless you dig one up ... next... admit it... its september... all the plants are starting to look ratty ... for a lot of us up north ... nothing you will do.. will extend the season ... so ... once you confirm roots are growing... replant .... and just say to yourself... see you next season .. good luck ken...See MoreEsther-B, Zone 7a
