Little bit of happy to share

I've had the TV on all day, really, for weeks. Mostly news and I like to hear the press briefings rather than getting the information predigested by reporters. They're carried live on all the broadcast channels.

Between all that, however, are the ads. The first week or two of stay at home, the advertising hadn't caught up and was weird. Then the self serving, smarmy, and hard sell commercials came on, referring to the current situation in hushed tones, auto makers practically begging people to buy their cars, and big commerce corporations hanging their logos on the herculean work being done by health professionals and others in the trenches.

There are also ads for things you just can't buy, like disinfectants and certain foods. Nicer commercials are like for El Pollo Loco, which is a fast Mexican style grilled chicken chain, who promise free delivery "for as long as it takes". Very straightforward and informative without being smarmy or ghoulish.

Never before now, however, maybe partly because the tone of so many of the new ads is so distasteful, have I ever perked up each time a particular commercial came on. It's for Dignity Health which is a not-for-profit hospital conglomerate which started as a chain of Catholic hospitals, and now is a major player in corporate hospitals in the west. They're not all sweetness and light just because they're not-for-profit, but they got it just right with their ad, set to We're Gonna Be Alright by Imaginary Future. A simple video that looks pulled from social media, encapsulating hope and happiness and delight and being together. And great song. :)
