Small bathroom: contrast wall, splashback, or keep it simple?
Comments (6)The mosaic is a very good match for the floor and wall scheme, but I am baulking at using it as the space really is all and I don't want to "busy it up" too much. One suggestion was to run the floor tile up the vanity wall - I wouldn't want to break up the wall halfway so it would mean tiling the back of the shower in the same. This would probably also mean tiling the bath surround in the floor tile as well, which I am unsure about - I'm worried it will close the room in too much. If using a different tile altogether for that wall I'm not sure what I would do. I'd want to keep it the same colour (so white-ish) as the gloss wall tile, but haven't found anything that pleases me for a match in my hours and hours of looking at tiles...any suggestions?...See MoreSmall simple farmhouses-bathroom off kitchens-anyone have?
Comments (20)My older sister lives in an 1850s farmhouse which has a bath off the large kitchen. The door faces the basement entrance in a very small hallway which leads to a bedroom. It is full sized, but only about 8x10. Spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them, and it really wasn't a problem. The other half of the kitchen serves as a dining room. If you want weird--my own house was built in 1907, with a pantry and small back porch--neither of which was converted to a bathroom. However, there is a full bath upstairs with original fixtures, and a half bath (well, a sink with a wooden counter, and a toilet enclosed with beadboard planks under the stairs), but the strangest of all--the only closet on the first floor--an alcove in the hall next to the kitchen, and facing the basement stairs and side door--had a toilet installed for the convenience of a previous elderly owner! No door either, just a curtain rod which had a shower curtain on it when I bought the place. My very first task: to remove the carpet from the hall floor, then remove that toilet and make it a closet again! Despite this being done 21 years ago, I still have the 6" drain hole in the floor, because my cats love to stick their heads through it to watch me do laundry in the basement! :)...See Moresimple, well made, single hole bathroom faucet?
Comments (7)We have 4 Kohler Forte faucets (2 Vibrant brushed bronze and 2 in vibrant brushed nickel) They have all been in use for more than 6 years. We have not had any problem with them and the both finishes still look great. It's very easy to adjust the temperature and the volume with the single handle. I had to use the escutcheon plate with my faucet because the plumber mistakenly told the fabricator that we were using a 3 hole center set faucet and we didn't catch the mistake when we signed off on the fabricator's drawing. It still looks good but I think it looks even better without the plate. My son did have a problem with one of his Kohler faucets but even though his faucet was 5 years old and he did not have a receipt, he was sent a new faucet in less than a week after emailing Kohler customer service. So I can attest to the fact that they do have great customer service....See MoreNeed bedroom paint color to compliment adjoining hall and bathroom
