Help! Front Curb Appeal Needed for 1971 house
Comments (4)I posted on your other thread, too. Glad you are tackling the windows! That little ankle-peek window is odd, as if the architect was trying to do something remarkable rather than memorable -- although it is hard to forget! It serves no obvious good purpose. If you are contemplating changing or getting rid of it, consider moving it up to just under the eaves. I asked on the other thread if you are replacing the amber glass panes. They are true to the age and character of the house, but limit your color choices both inside and out, and make it look like the house is inhabited by heavy smokers. (Is it obvious I don't like it?) A clear watered or plain glass would be better and simpler, and detract less from the lines of the house. A simple pergola all the way down the side of the garage would make a stunning entry way and set off the front door nicely. If you extend it four feet beyond the front of the garage, even better. Do you have enough privacy that you could put in full-glass front doors?...See MoreHelp! Ugly front porch- need help with curb appeal!

Comments (6)Hi Jessica- Congratulations on your lovely new home! Enjoy it in good health! If you need a larger door, can you just get a larger door without it being a double door? Are you able to move in furniture through the back, e.g. a patio or sliding door in the back of the house? I agree that the shutters should be the correct size and not be fixed, they should be able to be closed (be functional) and you can get shutter dogs to keep them open. I like the door the same color as the shutters, some shade of green would be nice. Beverly's landscaping looks great. Some colorful perennials would be nice in front as well. An alternative is the hedges as Beverly shows and window boxes with colorful perennials or annuals. Or even plants with colorful leaves like coleus. Window boxes are way easier to take care of than getting on your knees. Window boxes are usually white. Unless you get ones made out of cast iron. If your neighborhood is one where people walk up to your house, you might want to think about putting in a walkway from the street to your front door that is attractively curved with plantings along the edge....See MoreLandscaping at front porch - need to add curb appeal and hide pipes
Comments (11)One could not know how to reshape the bed by looking at half of it, or seeing it at an angle from a distance. Return to where you took the first picture. Move in closer but where you can see the whole first floor of house and the lawn. (You'll be standing on the parkway or near edge of walk. OK to turn the camera to vertical format.) Take a panoramic picture by using that feature of the camera or by taking slightly overlapping pictures. Show every square in the of yard space that is between both drives. (We'll also be seeing your right neighbor's house in the background.) Normally, the clean-out pipes are cut off flush to the ground surface. I don't know if there's anything about your area that requires different, but that's the reason you don't see them elsewhere. Do all the yards there have these things sticking up like that?...See Moresuezbell
