Kerry- We had the same dilemna a little over a year ago when we were remodeling out kitchen. I did not want the external dispenser on my fridge and I was concerned about the internal dispenser because of dripping and I felt the fridge door would always be open because there are seven of us in the house and we all drink a lot of water. This is what we decided on and I couldn't be happier: Fridge: LG LFC21760ST FD CD with no water, which made it much cheaper than the other models we were considering that had the internal dispenser. I also liked the look, the handles went well with my other appliances which are Bosch. Everpure Polara water chiller I too was concerned about space under the sink and the noise of the chiller. I e-mailed Everpure about the possibility of installing the unit in the basement to allow more room under the sink. The reply I received said the best way to install the unit is as close to the faucet as possible. The farther away the system is, the more water will have to be flushed out of the lines before you get cold water. Also, the farther away the unit is, the lower the pressure is coming out of your faucet. As for the noise with the chiller under the sink, it does cycle on and off and it is fairly loud when it is doing its thing, but it really doesn't bother me, I don't even notice it anymore. inSinkerator TranScape HC-View-SS (insta-hot!) Add me to the enabler list but if you are getting the chiller and you have to get a faucet for that anyways, you have to get an insta-hot!!! It was a last minute decision for me and it is one of my favorite things in our new kitchen. I drink tea every morning and a couple of my kids eat instant oatmeal every morning. I also find it very handy for cleaning. I wet a microfiber towel with the hot water and wipe down my granite and appliances. I bought the inSinkerator because the dispenser coordinated well with my main faucet and it came with the hot water tank. At the time, I did not care for any of the Everpure faucets but I think they have introduced some new ones since then. I only had to put two holes in my granite, one for my faucet and one for my hot/cold water dispenser. I decided not to get the soap dispenser hole. It is a little crowded under my sink but there is still room for a garbage can, a few of my cleaning supplies, box of trash bags from Sam's, large container of Electrasol tabs from Sam's, etc. It is very efficient, I don't have a lot of things under the sink anymore but everything I need is there. Oh, and as far as energy efficiency, our electric bill is a lot lower than it was year ago even with the extra under sink gadgets. My new appliances are just more energy efficient than my 14 yr. old appliances were. We were recently informed that our town library has an electicity usage monitor that we can check out to see how much energy our appliances are using. I am really curious about the hot water and chiller and plan to check that out real soon. Good luck with your decisions! Ann

I once had a GE refrigerator with an internal water dispenser. To me, it is a flawed design. To get the water you stand in front of the fridge with the door half open....letting out all of the cold air. This lets the food warm up until it all cools down again. Every time you stand there to get water. It's insane. The temperature on a thermometer I had in there would show a warm up of 20 to 30 degrees while standing there. I quit using the internal water and no longer have that fridge. I now have no water dispenser on my Whirlpool. I don't mind putting ice cubes in my glass and going to the tap. It tastes much better, but we have wonderful well water. If we lived on a municipal system I would be using reverse osmosis.

I have a GE Profile French Door fridge that is 10 years old, paid almost $3k for it. I believe it was actually made by Samsung at the time and rebranded. I discovered this when I started getting water under the deli drawer and when I was looking up how to fix it online, discovered this was actually the same issue the almost identical Samsung was having. After watching some youtube videos, we fixed it ourselves since the tech who came out did a poor job. It has been fairly problem free other than that annoyance which started right after the one year warranty ended. If I could do it again I'd get a french door fridge with water in the door, but ice make in the freezer (do they even make that?). My daughter is obsessed with ice and so constantly using our ice maker and over the summer it all clumped up and then was dripping on my floor. We didn't have any issues with the ice maker until the 10 year mark so that's a good thing! I now have the ice maker disabled so all is fine and daughter is no longer crunching ice. Overall, the fridge is quiet and I love the interior layout. I just did a kitchen remodel and bought all new appliances, but decided to keep the fridge. I did not feel like getting another fridge with a new set of problems. At least with this one I know its issues.

@Pam Sessoms I can't believe this thread is still going after all these years, but I'm also not surprised that it is. Q: "Is the Safe n Sound in a full sheet sitting on the floor and then the fridge wheels and legs are ON TOP of that," A: No!!!! Do not compress the sheet in any way, it is most effective when left uncompressed, you do however have to cut it thin enough to be able to slide it under the fridge. For the rest of your question, the most important part is to cover up as much of the floor gap as possible, it is not necessary to have 100% of it closed off, it may not matter that much. What matters is you are trying to stop sound from the compressor bouncing off the floor outwards into your living space. Don't forget you can also place a thin sheet behind the fridge which may help as well. Read again my original comment on how to do it, make sure to leave enough air gap for hot air to escape or you'll be causing more problems than solving. One more thing to make a note of is that there's two kinds of rock wool insulation, one is for thermal insulation, the other is for sound absorption, make sure you get the sound absorption version. I had such good results with the stuff for sound insulation I used it to insulate the outdoor walls when I renovated, in that case I used the thermal insulation, it's definitely not as good for sound absorption, I tested it out myself. I have only 4" thick walls in the old home so it was the same thickness in my case. I have to mention one last thing, our new F&P we got is still chugging along really well, it has no noisy compressor issue, but we have a new issue with noise coming from the ice maker. It worked really slowly as I said previously, and later on started making loud grinding sounds when it dispensed new ice. We called in a repair costing us $480 CAD (ouch!) to replace the ice maker, after that it worked much faster making ice and was quiet (happy!). Fast forward 1.5 years and guess what? Yes it's making the same grinding noises and is slow making ice again (very sad!). So now what? I bet a second repair will cost $1000 because everything is now a lot more expensive. I figure I'll take the ice maker out myself and try to figure out why it's malfunctioning, not much to lose at this point.
