Hoya Obovata or Pubicalyx Pink Silver?
Comments (10)Hi Denise, Thanks for posting a pic of your beautiful pink silver. Your Hoya is huge and really healthy. Looks like I picked the right one, not to say I won't get the other later, LOL... Like I said I have never ordered from this company before, but they have alot of different types of flowers and plants, I found them by accident while searching for pink silver hoya. I ordered it from Gardino Nursery(rareflora.com) is the website I think. I posted the link to their Hoya selection below, they also have an 800 number which is nice if you just want to ask them some questions. The lady that helped me was very nice and helpful. She said they ship their plants on Mondays, I believe they are on the SE Coast of Florida. Hope to get it by Wed. next week. By the way should I give this plant a bright location (maybe a couple hours of morning sun). Does this plant like it on the dry side or a little moist? Thanks for your help. Comments (20)Thanks Xuan! Mentha, thanks...I LOVE this one! Yes, make sure you tell your hoya to get on the ball, lol...I can't believe its blooming already. Mike, this was a rooted plant, it wasn't anywhere the size it is now, actually shortly after I received it(I had it outside under a palm tree) and lost several leaves to snails! It took a couple of months to replace them, but once it got going it grew fast! This one has the potential to get large. Gabi, no problem! This is definitely light pink. I've seen photos that looked white like yours, that's why I asked about the color. BTW, your pictures are awesome! Just gorgeous!! Thanks for the kind words and info!...See MoreQuestions about my Hoya clipping...
Comments (1)Hi there. I'm a little confused. When you say buds, I'm assuming you aren't talking about leaves, right? Buds are what form on peduncles (little stems that come off the main stem), and they turn into flowers. So when you say "are those small red buds going to grow any leaves", I'm not quite sure what you mean, because buds grow flowers not leaves. If the buds dried out and fell off, that means they blasted and it happens to the best of us! They will grow back again from the same peduncle. It might be awhile, but eventually they will. Anyway, I think the real question is how are you treating the hoya? For the roots to just fall off, there must be something wrong. Are there any pests on the plant? What are the conditions (how often do you water, what kind of soil are you using, what kind of light is the hoya in, what kind of pot is it in, does the pot have drainage holes?). When I ask what kind of pot it's in, I mean is it in glazed clay, unglazed clay, or plastic...hoyas like plastic pots. Also what size is the pot? It shouldn't be too big, because that can cause root rot from the soil not drying out fast enough. For one cutting, it should be 2-3" in diameter and not very deep. Can you post a picture? Comments (2)C-Nat, What Hoyas are you growing? Some species grows fast and furiously while others are real slowpokes. I think most Hoyas can take temps down into the mid-40s for short periods. Some even lower. But most are ideally grown above 60 F. I have a feeling you have the perfect climate for growing Hoyas! Denise in Omaha...See MoreElena
