Uninformed opinion/guess, when people are sent home to self isolate they are supposed to remain separate as much as possible from their family. For example use separate bathrooms and bedrooms. In hospitals there is virus floating everywhere especially because of aerosolizing procedures like intubation and ventilation. So I imagine the risk is different. Also they may want to keep close contacts of that person (who may have Covid) ouT.

IDK and I hate to be alarmist, but it seems if someone gets admitted to a H today, that is the time to say goodbye? It's just horrific to read some of these cases.

That's my understanding too, robo. I assumed that only the most dire cases were being hospitalized, while those who do test positive but were not in severe condition were expected to isolate as much as possible at home. Presumably in most cases those patients would have already been in close family contact, and exposure had already occurred for the entire household.

Yes, this is the case at hospitals near me. But it's not due to potentially infecting family members who might visit (it's assumed most of them--the immediate ones who had contact with the one in the hospital--would already be infected). It's to spare the hospital staff from greater risk of infection. Plus, frankly, with how inundated the staff are, they need to focus their attention on patients only.

If there is any consolation, by the time they intubate, the patient is sedated and, from a strictly medical point of view, unaware they are alone. It's the family members who suffer.

I have lectured my family about this--do not take any physical risks that would land them in the hospital, because they would be alone. Hospitals around me do not allow any visitors, even for those who are in for non-covid reasons.

Our local news station has a reporter who often reports on road conditions, etc., during blizzards and snowstorms. Her infamous words to those venturing out during a below-freezing spell were, "Don't be stupid." I keep repeating this to my family. It bears witness.

I cannot fathom the grief. It is too terrible to consider.

That is the warning I have been giving to those (that I know) that I see not practicing social distancing. “If you get sick you will be in the hospital all by yourself”. It does get their attention.

DH must travel next week by plane. He will be self quarantine when he gets back home. We have already discussed our living arrangements.

He is a pilot who must travel to base to re certify his FAA license. No license no pay.

Aa woman on our local FB community page asked about the possibility of Covid-19 patients having visitors. Particularly minor patients. She confessed that she is asking because the thought of her young children, scared and alone without their mom or dad was more than she (the mom) could handle. It was suddenly very real.

I just sent ANOTHER appeal to my son and DIL who continue to drag my 10 year old grandson around with them for their own selfish reasons. I am beside myself about it. I wrote to them to please isolate him. If he gets this he will be in the hospital all by himself, which I know would break their hearts more than anything. Maybe it will shake them up, idk, but I can barely sleep at night for worry about him. He already has asthma and allergies, so compromised lungs. They are both selfish idiots.

I just said to my husband earlier we need to turn empty hotels into quarentine centers. In China positive cases were forced in to make shift hospitals to stop spread. We should be doing this when possible too.

When I had my stroke my family had to fly home while I was still in the icu. My husband could not get back to Florida for a few days. I would not wish that isolation on anyone :(

We've been contemplating/planning isolating at home too. If I got it, I would be petrified of giving it to my husband, given his risk factors. He would be waiting on me to the extent necessary, so how to keep him completely germ free? I guess start with a supply of peanut butter and bread, drinks, oranges, etc., in my quarters so that he truly could stay away. Still, it's hard to imagine I wouldn't need something unforeseen.

Maddielee, that church? Absolutely not doing the work of Jesus, who was all about caring for "the least of these." And in case that church doesn't grasp the concept, we in our fragile human bodies are ALL "the least of these" in this event. Holding services is criminal, even if it isn't prosecutable.

At our pediatric hospital, pediatric admissions may have one support person (no visitors) and women in labour may have one support person. Other than that no visitors.

I remember reading somewhere (but don't recall the source) that a doctor who is intubating patients basically says "If you wanna say something to someone, say it now because you may not be able to say it later."

I have heard of some medical personnel who come home, disinfect their clothing and themselves, and still are sleeping in campers, or wherever they can, apart from family. Not every family has the home space or resources to do this, obviously, but if that doesn’t send a message, what does? I can’t imagine a church holding services! Why is there always someone or some group who feels exempt from the rules? Oly, I feel your pain and hope your grandson will be ok.

One of my best friends is a nurse at our local hospital and they ran out of reagent a while back so they can't test anyone. So there's no telling how many are unconfirmed carriers.

Amy Klobuchar was interviewed this afternoon on Kasie DC and addressed this point but also expanded to say how lonely it is for those with the Covid 19. Her husband is now out of the hospital but still in 14 days quarantine.

olliesmom, on our state’s health dept map you can tap on your county and it tells you if cases are travel related. A couple weeks ago most were. Not so anymore.

maddielee's mention of a that church reminded me of the one my DH's niece and family attend. It's one one of those churches that, to me, are questionable. Mega organization with churches scattered around the country, that claims to heal people, believes God will protect them from this virus, etc. I cringed when she posted a video on Facebook of a birthday party for her 2-year-old son. All of those children and parents in one room, and this child sitting on a table surrounded by gifts and blowing out candles on his cake ! They live in the state with the highest amount of cases and deaths, but, thankfully, far from NYC. Dear heavens, what is wrong with people !

I heard that too, Mtn, and people were sharing on FB. Our local children's hospital posted that is not true in our area, and it was verified with the state/Gov office. Parents are allowed, no one else in family is allowed.

It is sad to think people will die without a family member or loved one nearby, but in reality that happens multiple times every single day.
