Comments (14)This is an exceptional year here as far as temps go. Most days are above 105, and have been for over a month with no rain for over 60 days.. It's hard to tell what is dead, and what is dormant, in spite of the watering. A lot of the ferns go dormant, as do the astilbes, and will put on new growth when the fall rains come (if they do at all) but anything that puts on new growth now, if that growth dies, the plant will be a goner. I've already lost some plants for sure that way. Not sure about the hostas, I think some of the younger ones are truly fried, and not just dormant. Most of the older ones will be ok. Dicentras should be fine, they all go dormant in dry years. It isn't the drought that concerns me so much, it's the extreme heat. Most plants can live through drought. But not if they are cooked....See MoreA cute little story about my 7 year old and the Dr. Oz show.
Comments (53)Polly, enjoyed your story about your adorable 7 year old. That will be a memory you can cherish forever! I must admit I too thought the "she" who went to the show was your daughter, but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of your story. And when posters questioned the lack of a permission slip to go on a trip, I didn't pay too much attention. But then...OMG, the attacks. Totally out of line. Asking for clarification is okay, attacking the OP is not. I will admit I'm more of a general idea person, and as someone pointed out, decorators are more detail oriented. I got the general idea: this was a cherished moment with your daughter and you were amazed at her intellect, which you should be. (BTW, I think you have a creative, high level thinker on your hands, so make sure you are stashing the cash for her college education!) I just don't get the need to attack you because of the way you constructed the sentence containing the pronoun "she". Yes, detailed oriented folks find that irritating, but I just wish posters would have responded in the spirit in which the thread was begun. When you wrote it, you knew what you meant, and were not spending hours editing it for perfection. Most of us would have written it the same way you did. Polly, give your daughter a hug for me, and tell her that someone out there in cyberworld thinks she is a great kid now and has a fantastic future ahead of her. You must be so proud of her!...See MoreWhat just happened? Vent about mom.
Comments (31)I lurk her every night and feel like I know you all. I may be way off base but I have a 94 year old dad who still lives by himself, drive, shops, cooks and everything except what the cleaning lady does. A few years ago I also, with his blessing, told all his grandchildren, great grandchildren plus everyone else that there would no longer be any overnight visits at grandpas. Everyone was welcome to visit for a few hours but it was just too much for him to plan for dinners and breakfast for overnight guest. I have one niece who thought that it applied to everyone but her. She would show up unannounced with her family and just take over his house. I tried talking to her and was told in no uncertain terms that it was not my business. Well I walked in on one of her visits and she was questioning my dad about his will. I interrupted her and ask just what do you want to know. She again said it was not any of my business she was talking to her grandfather. My dad finally said if you want to know anything you better listen to your aunt she is in charge of all my money and the executor of my will and all my trusts. Turn out she wanted one of his vacation homes. I explained to her his entire estate would be left to her mother and me and if she wanted to know anymore about it she should talk to her mother. Well needless to say that visit ended shortly and funny thing is she has not been back. It really hurt my dadâÂÂs feeling to find out she only visited him because she wanted something. Now I think I know where some of the things missing out of the house have gone but dad would probably given her anything she wanted if she had ask. I know what you mean about you are damned if you do and damned if you donâÂÂt. I am the one that looks out for my dadâÂÂs best interest. After my mother died he handed all their business dealing to me said he just didnâÂÂt want to do it. I give him a monthly report that he signs off on, all very legal, but sometimes I feel like an employee reporting to the chairman of the board instead of a daughter. He told me to sell the vacation home!...See More7 Little Word game
