Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen backsplash?- weird window pass thru over sink & strange walls

Recently purchase home, see attached pics of kitchen. A variety of issues we need to address with backsplash:

Where to put it? Clearly on the back wall between the refrigerator and wall ovens, but what do I do on the wall to the right of the ovens where the sink is - do I put tiles there too? And if so, where do I stop - you can see in the last picture how that wall eventually continues on to a cased opening to another room.
Kind of hard to see in the pics, but the cabinets are a Cream color, and the counter tops are a quartz that are white/gray with slight brown veining. The center island is a medium toned wood.

hese would not have been my choices, but I can't replace the kitchen and need to work with these materials -- at least they are new. But what the heck should I do with a backsplash -- something simple?

Wall paint color is also an issue as this room is open to the family room and basically the whole

house - so need to somehow resolve to make the space feel cohesive.

Any suggestions are welcome - I am overwhelmed and stuck!

I sure wouldnt be letting myself get overwhelmed by this. From what I can see, there's already a backsplash there in that 4 " piece, so you don't really need to do anything for the moment. You may eventually want to remove it and add tile, but I wouldn't be in a rush. I'm not crazy about the rustic look of the island compared with the more finished look of the rest of the cabinetry, so that might be something to look at, longer term.

Hi. Nice home! I would

1) Have the crown molding on the cabinets changed, so that the crown reaches the ceiling

2) Have. shelving unit added to right side of the window so that you have an ending point for the tile. Would be a convenient place to have glasses anyway.

3) I'd remove the small backsplash and add a coppery-toned tile.

As far as the paint color, it depends on the other elements in your home and your furniture. I don't find the paint color objectionable, but you may want something else?

I am in sorta of the same dilemma... We removed a window that will now just be a opening into an enclosed Glass Porch/Entry. It is in front of my sink and right now the window sill would be level to the granite counter.....If I leave it... that means the entire faucet will be seen when ever people come into the front entry...Which as far as I'm concern...isn't bad...because it is a Beautiful Faucet! The fella doing the demo and remodeling thought i should have at least a few inches above it, Unless I was going to use it as a pass thru...and I won't...but I could have it level with the counter and use it as for a place to put plants...how would that look? Anxious to hear what everyone thinks about this..... With your wall of windows I can understand Why you wouldn't want a back splash.....with me...I just don't know what to do??? Looks like a consensus then... I'll take out the top 5 tiles. The 6th tile down is coped around the bottom edge of the cabinet so I'll keep that one in. Natesgramma - The paint around the top portion of the window is the same paint as the rest of the kitchen. A white crown molding will go all around, including above the window area. I wasn't planning on doing a window treatment as I like that particular window bare. Yes, I love Anita's backsplash. At first I think the tiles should be the same height as the ones under the range hood, and noticed Anita's window and range hood are on two different walls. BUT I think mine will look fine if they're not level. If anything, I think it makes the area under the range hood more of a focal point. Thanks all, I needed a confirmation that it wasn't just me. DH isn't convinced but I'll show him this post. How long can we wait before we pry off the tiles, I wonder?

I have windows down to the counter (highly recommend!) and used Mocketts -- yes, it passed inspection in my jurisdiction. It's not crazy to not want a backsplash. The 6 inch pieces tend to look too tall IMO, but you could always try getting wider window trim so the 4 inch won't leave a gap. For behind the stove you can go for a simple stainless steel panel or tile up to the bottom of the vent hood.

I agree that larger crown would close that unsightly gap at the top of the cabs. Looks like the previous owners painted the cabinetry white but decided to leave the island as is for contrast and to go with the floor. Do you have a favorite accent color you'd want to paint it? When you get around to doing the backsplash, I'd take tile right to the uppers and then wrap it on around at that same height all the way to the end of the counter by the opening to the other room.
